Popup doesn't appear for me. I have the Premium version. MacBook Pro/Chrome browser. I've been creating and editing a lot of routes recently as I'm planning my next trip.

could be a browser issue then from the sounds of things.
not the first time that this sort of thing happens, once in a blue moon I hit weirdness with something and after a minute or 5 or 10, I remember, "oh yeah, try another browser" and it sometimes sorts out the issue.
and Ive never even used rwgps really, so plead complete innocence with it.

It is gone - -
I suspect it was a beta test that was supposed to be in beta mode,
but somehow it went live by mistake.
Popups have become ubiquitous - in almost every website.
Sometimes you get popups in popups.
Often with revenue or redirect as a goal.
But most people hate 'em and do their best to ignore them.
*FYI
I intentionally feed my advert "profile" fake stuff.
For ex. - that I have a private pilot, buy yachts, and use an extra large bra.
In the spirit of Edward Abbey.
I suspect it was a beta test that was supposed to be in beta mode,
but somehow it went live by mistake.

One time I had a Disney ad take over my phone in the middle of a conversation.
Do they really think you are going to buy when they irritate you like that?

You should be happy now, the button seems to be deactivated, as I'm not getting it today.
You may want to avoid clicking on the Explore tab however, as that map has a button that appears upon panning or zooming, saying "Search this area"

"You can't please everybody." You have no idea how many people like (or dislike) the new features.

Nope, doesn't happen to me. Nothing I do brings it up, edit, whatever. I love the software and all the improvements over the years. I have hundreds of routes in my library. My wife and I did a solo tour of the Czech Republic, relying entirely on RWGPS for route planning. Didn't even take paper maps, didn't need them. Of course it took me a while working up 600k of road routes complete with accommodations.

With multiple route failures (described here in this thread - https://www.bikeforums.net/touring/1...-ride-gps.html) - I find it useful to sanity check with the heat maps to double check if other cyclists have come through a similar route. It may not be as big of an issue if your world is New Jersey but I found in less populated areas it would pick routes that included (a) private roads (b) misleading assumption that if the road type was "unknown" it would be paved (c) one or two cases of a road not existing. In those less populated parts of the US, I would do as well with a state highway map e.g. South Dakota. However, otherwise it is a useful tool including for me in more urban areas and including the heat map as a cross-check.
As a backup in case both phones die I copy the cue sheet from RWGPS, paste it into a text editor and add my own notes, then print that out. I ride on a lot of unnamed roads/trails so the RWGPS instruction will just be "2.7 mi slight right", so I put in a description and the approximate heading of the path I'm turning onto just to reassure myself I'm on the right road, so my new instruction will be something like "2.7 mi slight right doubletrack 300°"
When it comes to finding a campsite I'll consult the maps for legal camping areas and put notes in for that also. On my last trip I was going to camp in a small pocket of campable land so I looked it up on the State Trust Land site, used a half mile buffer on either side just to make sure and then entered a note for it - "Camp one to 2.5 miles past Salome Road"
