Colnago with Boule d'Or graphics and panto
Does anyone have any info or has anyone ever seen a Colnago with Boule d'Or pantographing? I'm trying to decide if this is even a real Colnago. Current owner says he bought it from the original owner in the late 80's and at the time it was represented to him as a Colnago Super although he later realized that the Super decals were on top of the clear coat and were probably not original. The lugwork also just looks a little mundane for a Colnago. Owner thinks it may have been produced specifically for the Boule d'Or racing team... any thoughts?
If the consensus is that it is in fact a Colnago then I'll create another post in the appraisal section to ask about it's value. Thanks for your time and expertise!

My guess is that the frame is a genuine Colnago. The construction appears to be very much like a Colnago. And, there was an association between Colnago and the Boule d'Or racing team in the late 70's, early 80's.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boule_..._(cycling_team)
Also note the Colnago on the rear dropout and the clover on the fork crown.
However, my guess is the graphics are all wrong for that frame.
I've found this one on Google/Twitter
@deux jambes recently tried to sell a similar non-mainstream Colnago, and it didn't sell well.
So, with the incorrect graphics, incorrect stem... etc. I'd put the asking price at about twice what it is worth.

Well that’s interesting. I have an ‘82/‘83 Colnago Super Profil that was raced under Danny Van Baelen on the Boule d’Or team for the ‘83 season. The Boule d’Or engravings on your F/F compare well with the panto on my components. I’ll post a pic or two later.
Over the BB shell cable routing could help with dating.
I wonder if this was another branding venture similar to the Saronni branded bikes.

Searching my failing memory i'm pretty confident it is one of Colnago's 'commemorative' (if thats the right word) models like the Roger de Vlaeminck or the Saronni. I know i've seen it before. More than likely, based on a Super model. Someone will know definitively.

I wouldn’t doubt that it’s a Colnago. Features, to me, suggest from around ‘79 or ‘80. My ‘82 Super has the same crimped inner chainstay but a different conical chainstay bridge. Very cool bike, but IMO, a little overpriced given the current depressed state of the vintage bike market. I think I would take that one over a similar era Super because it’s unique.

Boule d'Or panto:
Typeface more or less the same. Roger De Vlaeminck raced for the Boule d’Or team in 1980, per @Munny above. Funny in this day to see a cigarette brand with deep association to bicycle racing. “It opens your lungs!”...
...and for what it’s worth, not meant to devalue the posted bike, but as a data point: the Bd’O team bike I currently have has the expected Colnago markings in seat stay caps, chainstays, lower HT lug, fork crown, plus a number tab.
That’s a fun bike. You should haggle and buy it.

Sir_Name, a very nice little celebration of Freddy Maertens. He seemed to be everyone's favourite rider at the time. So, Boule d'Or was a brand of cigarette. Did you find your lovely Colnago with the pantographed components or did you get them separately? The reason I ask is that i'm very confident I have seen the Boule d'Or branded Colnago's before and have wondered if they came with the pantographed parts? I know Colnago supplied the Boule d'Or team with their bicycles for a time.

Here in Belgium, I know a prolific ebay seller who uses(d) to brings nos campagnolo items to a slot maker to get them pantographed so that he could increase their value
I wouldn't pay more for panto parts
I woud pay less for freshly drilled parts (I wouldn't even consider them)

The pantograph components came with and were original to the frameset. The seller had located the bike in Belgium if memory serves, and parted it out on eBay. He kept the team pantographed components and sold them to me at the same time as the frameset. Well, that’s the story at least, and I don’t have any reason to doubt it. The frameset is Colnago branded, not Boule d’Or.

Still considering making an offer on the linked ad, @rideandgoseek?

It was probably built by Colnago. I know Colner was started by Colnago because at the time a bicycle manufacturer could only sponsor one pro team. Ernesto didn't like this so he created another company COLNago EResto. This frame might be very similar to this also.

Seems like it is the real deal although not a Super most likely. Kind of cool if you ask me. But i also agree that as it sits it’s probably worth half the asking price.
