Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I agree. I had only ridden it "around the block". I wasn't all that impressed ...at first. But now that I have put a lot of time on it I can't imagine why anyone would ride ...wait for it...wait for it...Campy Super Record or any other high-end group.

And she's not just for show ...she goes too. Here's a shot from today's ride up to the Onion Valley trailhead. Onion Valley climb rated toughest climb in California.

I freakin' love them!! I've been riding custom wheels for years because I rode a Power Tap. I can now run any wheel I want and I choose the Dura-Ace wheels.

How far did you run the battery down before you said "that's enough"? I'm at solid red now.

OK thank you. I guess my mileage is more because of all the climbing I do. On a long climb (20 miler) I shift very little -- just when I stand and sit down. Unless it's steep like Onion Valley or Whitney Portal where I will go miles and miles without shifting. Then I descend all 20 miles in my biggest combination and don't need to shift at all. The amount of shifting while racing/training in packs and in an urban areas would require much more shifting.

I'm going for 2,500 miles and then I will recharge.

I ride mostly in windy, small rolling hills in Illinois so I am shifting constantly.

Oh yes I remember the annoying rollers in those midwest states when I did RAAM in 2007.

Awesome bike, good job. As far as the Dura-Ace wheels go; I could not agree more. I just bought a Pedal Force RS2 w/ the new 2010 SRAM Force group and had DA wheels (clincher) put on it. They are fantastic durable, spin smooth wheels.

Good Luck with your new bike.

If you don't mind me asking Vireo, how much did your whole bike (project) upgrades and all included cost you? I don't get impressed easily, but I am impressed. Can't imagine what it feels like riding it. Bike porn.

He is a dealer. His project cost won't apply to mere mortals like you and I.

****UPDATE**** today my battery ran down to the point where the front der no longer shifted. I then shifted the rear der 250 + times hoping the battery would completely drain but it kept shifting. How did I count 250? I shifted up and down the cassette 10 shifts each round. Mileage for this charge was 2054 miles or 126 hours. Mileage is a little less because I have been doing group rides lately and there is a lot more shifting than riding solo.

Much smoother but heavier than my Soloist SL. I had to ride a 56cm Felt last year because the 54cm had a 74.5 degree seat tube angle and the 56cm had a 73.5 degree. I like 73 degrees on the Cervelo bikes. For 2011 the geometry has changed so I will be riding a 54cm F1.
