Is this worth $325? That's the lowest he will go. Blue book is around $125. Looks like 105 rear derailleur. Anyone have experience with them?

Yes. Round tube aluminum Treks are nice rides.

Not worth $325 in today's market. FMV is half that or less.

Ok. I appreciate it. I thought so too. People in my area have gotten very rigid and optimistic about pricing. Not sure why. Guess with spring coming people think they will get more.

He says it's "appraised at $300-500." Don't know where he came up with that

I'm also looking at a 2021 Emonda SL6 which is a different kettle of fish. He won't budge off $1200.

I owned one for brief time decent frame but not so great mixed components and fork to meet cost point. In nice condition with cheapo flat bars and DT shifters being a some what cheap looking big black bike really only $100-150 depending market if all works good. As note I really don't like the seat post and seat on these kinda skinny and with the skimpy twin bolt design a bit hard to adjust set right and white sucks for seat.

My 1400 is the same frame but with aluminum fork and 105 group. Very nice riding (I believe tubing designed to mimic 531 or SL) bike.
I don't think I could get $300 for my very nice '91.

I built up a 1220 for my kids from a frameset. Spent well over $250 all in. Rides nice, but I wouldn't spend that much again. Wanted a very specific size and a lot of what I "spent" was wheelset and parts that were in my parts bin (so I'm considering replacement cost). Frameset and donor bike would have been much, much cheaper. I'd call ~$150 a good price for one in good condition. I wouldn't go for that one with mtb bars on it (if you do go for it, check the stem for cracks in the clamping area).

If it fits you, I'd probably say yes (especially at the asking price for each). Drop bars and STIs would be worth the $75 difference to me (and it'd cost me more than that to make the change myself).

$100 tops. I have owned and ridden a 1000, 1200, 1400 and 1600. All were good to me but none were exceptional in ride quality. That said, next summer's project is waiting for me to get home to Canada is this Trek 2200 SL that came my way for free, complete with the original Rolf wheel set. Looks good in the pic but aluminum corrosion, on some components will create a restoration challenge...

The more decades of riding, the less I'm sure what to make of discussions of ride quality exclusive of the bike's geometry and my fit on the bike.

SpeedOfLite posted a 1988 review last year that compared the Trek 560 (all True Temper double-butted chrome moly) to the Trek 1200. Same fork, same geometry, same components, same everything except frame.

All the staffers at the magazine who rode the two bikes preferred everything about the 1200's ride, to the point where the writer lamented the likely supplanting of steel bikes by aluminum in the coming years. Which, of course, is what happened.

Editing to note: just realized that my first and last paragraphs contradict each other.

Let me be more specific. Round tube aluminum Treks using Easton or Alcoa tubing are generally nice, compliant rides.

When Trek changed to Alpha SL tubing with triangular section downtubes as in randyjawa's 2200 above, ride quality took a hit IMO.

Seemed as though Trek was appealing to a different (racing) crowd now. One that didn't mind harshness in the sake of speed and efficiency.

The Alpha SL frames struck me as stiff and jarring in comparison to their Easton or Alcoa brethren. That nice compliance was gone.

Sellers have the right to ask crazy high prices and be firm on them. Buyers have the right to look elsewhere. I have had zero luck talking crazy sellers into being realistic. I've seen some bikes linger for sale for 3 YEARS or more......

The first thing I do is skip the crazy priced stuff. I might save the listing as occasionally pricing becomes realistic. Often, sellers will see an ASKING price on eBay and confuse "ASK" with "SELLING". I've heard this hundreds of times before "I saw my bike selling on ebay for $xxx." I always ask, "SELLING or ASKING?" I always get a dumb look and just move on.

I've never seen a market where ALL sellers are crazy. So my advice is keep looking. There is a $150 vintage bike in my market right now, asking price $1399. It's been for sale for six months.

I would say yes have and ride one of these A1-3 series framed bikes look a bit odd at first but very good riders only draw I have found is the semi specific headsets are not so great. So spin it point this out and offer $250.
