Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have no information about the GT manufacturer and would like to know if there are

It was in pretty good shape only needing tires (they are boh different sizes 700 x 23 on the front and 700 x 35 on the rear I think) and the rear brake caliper. I got it for $5.99, . It has some component names I recognize. I also want to replace the seat, it has a White O'Brien with neon lettering. Not my style, and not very comfortable. But for $6 I figured it was worth it for a first, starter bike. Even after the tire, seat and rear brake caliper what have I really got to loose?

Great find especially for the price. You'll have a nice bike with a little updating on the usual items like tires, bar tape, etc.

The "O'Brien" seat had me laughing though. The previous owner must be into water skiing because that sticker on the seat is actually for the "O'Brien" water ski equipment company. I ski and have a few items with that same sticker. The seat looks like a Selle Italia "Turbo" model. I see some black writing on the side of the nose and the general shape looks like what I rode back in the early to mid '80's.

Post an update when you get it fixed up.

Hey bandaidman, I really like that Tommasini. I'm actually in the process of building up a Tommasini Fire myself.

How do you like it?

giantmdb, hey man I didn't know, LOL. Actually someone else told me yesterday it was a Selle Italia seat. I ripped the sticker off and there were two different stickers under that one. I appreciate you guys not laughing at a newbie too hard

The white seat cleaned up some, but still has lots of scuff marks. I'll have to keep it until I can find one I like in my price range. I bought a new tire today, of course they only had one in the size I needed so I have to go back in a few days. I also got some bar tape. I also have some brakes coming for the back.

Great bike!!!!

i assume by your "tennessee" name you are getting it from gran fondo in nashville

it is a great shop and lynn will fit you right

just make sure you put campy on it...a good italian frame deserves an italian drivetrain!!!

You are correct. I have been to every bike shop around and really don't find any shops that compare to them. My previous bike, a Lemond Buenos Aires with Shimano 105, is a bit stretched out for me but I got a fitting by Lynn and he dialed it in as close as possible to a perfect fit. I can't wait to get my Tommasini though. I have always had Shimano but I am going with Campy on this bike. I have ridden a few bikes with Campy recently and didn't find it was too difficult to adjust to the thumb shifters. I also like the fact I can jump multiple gears in both directions, as well as trim out the front derailer to quite a few different positions. I can't wait! I'll try and post a pic when I finally get it all built up. It should be the beginning of next week.

My newest. Picked it up (after a 725 mile round-trip to the dealer) Wednesday. I've had 5 Serottas, yet I'm surprised how truly good this one is. Easy to set-up and dial in. Day after I get it home a 30 mile shake-down cruise. Next ride, tomorrow, is 144 miles. It's that good!

Here's a quick update to the Schwinn Tempo I posted on page 35. I've changed the rear tire and tube, bar tape, and the seat so far. Plus I bought a set of brakes since the rear was missing and replaced the cables. Counting the $6 I spent on the bike I have around $60 in it, and that includes shipping for the seat and brakes.

My BRAND new 2004 LeMond Zurich I got on Tuesday!

I have been riding a beautiful red Bridgestone RB-1 for about 10 years, but as I near 40 the desire for a triple has become strong enough to consider upgrading to a new bike. The LeMond rides so smoothly and really absorbs the road buzz and bumps while still feeling very light and snappy to me. I'll never give up the Bridgestone, but what a difference ten years makes in the advancements on a bike!

Those Zurichs really are very sexy... but would you mind posting pics of the RB-1 too?

That Lemond is gorgeous.

I now have a picture of mine all put together.
This picture is from Cape Cod, halfway through
my first metric century weekend before last.

( Don't worry, I picked it up and carried it onto the
sand for the picture, then picked it up and carried it
back to the road )

It has Shimano 540s and Ultegra everything. Has dodgy
old hand-me-down pedals and seat until I put together
the coinage to replace them.

Only last week I heard that the original Belgium rider/owner of my bike Steve Vermaut member of the 2002 Tour de France LOTTO team died during a training session due to a heart failure. Brings everything back to its proportion.
