Clips?
I used my REI stipend and got a pair of biking shoes. I have really been wanting to try clips. I was thinking getting some Crank Brothers, are there any pedals you guys like to use, or find as a better fit?

I have the shimano pdm530's they are flat on one side clips on the other.

Clipless is the term. I use Shimano SPD, I think the model is 540. They work great, but I hear good things about CB too. I think the Eggbeaters are a hair easier to get into, but may have a bit less longevity.

Cage Platform
I really like the PD-M545 with the alloy cage. They're rugged, which helps when you have rock strikes.
I've also uses the M424's, which are the resin cage ones. The cage gets destroyed, and actually deforms under extreme strikes. I had one pop off of its outer sprung pivot, which took some effort to get properly re-seated, employing a bench vise, a long pry bar, and another set of hands to guide it while holding the spring in place. A pain.

I have CB pedals (Candys) on 2 of my 3 bikes and I like them more than the Shimano SPD's that I used to use.
Easy in and out and very simple to maintain and rebuild. Super light-weight, too.

I've been using Crank Bros Candy pedals for a couple years with no problems. I like them.
(I still get nervous on technical stuff though. I would like pedals/shoes that work clipped in or not. I'm not sure that's possible but it would be cool.)

All the pedals mentioned above are good choices. I got some Crank Bros Candy at REI about 18 months ago. I use platforms on my Fat tire bike. I use the Candys on my roadie bike, along with a gnarly pair of MTB shoes. I like the distain I get from the latex lizards.
REI member bonus rocks. I got some new Zoic Bike shorts with my discount and dividend. I like the zippered pockets. The phone pocket is way too small, I keep my cigar cutter in it.

I use Shimano SPDs, M535. They work OK, but I've heard that Crank Bros Candy are better. I had a set I picked up with a bike, but sold them. Should have given them a try first.

I prefer the positive disengagement of SPD's (a click that pops you out of the pedal) to the vague, smearing sensation of the CB pedals' release. And if your riding includes any hike a bike, the CB cleats will wear out much quicker which makes disengagement even more iffy.

Still kicking.
I have used, Time, Crank Brothers, Shimano, Speedplay(road) for clipless, drilliums for platforms, dmr, xpedo, DK, Odyssey, Primo, Atom Labs.
Top 3 clipless:
#1 : Shimano: Cleats are more durable, plus if you are in a pinch almost every shop will have the shimano cleats. Not to mention the positive release of the pedals.
#2 : Crank Brothers: Good idea, easy to rebuild, way better than time.
#3 : Those cruiser pedals that cryptid01 posted the times I had were THAT bad.
Top 5 platforms.
#1 : Xpedo detox: Tough as nails pedal at a good weight.
#2 : DMR Vault: Great pedal, a little more finicky than the detox's.
#3 : Atom Labs Aircorp pedal: Good grip, bushing setup is a bit screwy.
#4 : Speedplay Drilliums. A bit heavy but reliable pedal.
#5 : Bontrager King Earls: Heavy, thick profiles, but easy to work on and has a good concave
With the plats, my least favorite ones are the Shimano DX and Shimano Saint pedals. Something about the shape of the pedals that bother my feet.
