Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I received this bike yesterday it is a 2001 Trek 1400. It has Look Clipless pedals which the seller included shoes which were luckily my size with the bike. Although i am going to switch to strap platforms soon so that i can get more comfortable on a bike

thanks for the comments! its hard to put together a bike that gets the respect of BF. haha

The bike is 21 yrs old. (6 speed Shimano 105)
the wheels are 11 yrs old!

Shimano 8 speed (12-21) + chain was the cheapest cassette to get me running the wheelset.

After running 8 speed friction for 2 months, getting the Centaur shifters was the cheapest way to upgrade to brifters and return to indexing.

Shimano 8 speed levers are stupidly expensive, ebay and otherwise and I didn't want to go SORA..... bikeforums taught me better than that. hahah

9-speeds shimano cogset + chain would get me up another 2 gears and are still "compatible" with the Centaur 10 speed....

if the '85' in your screen name is there because you were born in 1985 then you are 24 years old. i'll bet the bank by the end of the summer this bike is a fixed gear conversion and you have bought a newer road bike.

nothing wrong with that by the way. im 30 and got into road cycling 2 years ago after building a fixed gear bike and realizing i wanted more than one. i've decided that the right amount of bikes for any individual to own is 8. its just hard to get there cuz you will keep selling and buying, etc. etc.

7 more to go dude.

85 is my year of birth. Yes I am 24. What gives you the idea I would convert it, lol. How hard would it be to convert it? more or less wanted to start on a bike that if i shift badly or wipe out i wont want to hang myself over it.
