Hello everyone, I have a pair of shimano sl bs77 bar end shifters. They look great but the right one, when set in indexed mode sounds very noisy, especially when going from smaller to bigger gears. I was wondering if it's normal or not and, in case it's not, if there is any method to lubricate the spring inside the shifter (or any other way to fix the problem). I'll post a video of needed. Thank you!!

On my BS-64 (eight speed, not nine like you have) my bar end shifters have an audible clunk when it goes into the next index position. That is normal. I have three pairs of them, all sound the same. I think the eight and nine speed are almost identical except for the indexing.

But if your sound is something like scratching or some other sound like something is grinding, that would not be normal. If so, it would need some cleaning.

I like that reassuring thunk sound, I would not want to silence it.

I think something is scratching inside my shifter, but it looks very clean even after removing the antirotation washer. How can I clean the spring inside? is it possible for you to show me the thunk sound you are talking about? (Maybe I'm just worrying too much)

The internal parts like teh spring, I have no clue how to disassemble and I would not try it. I would not try to disassemble any parts that are shown as a complete part.

Not sure how to tell you how a thunk sound sounds, but it certainly is not the same sound as something scratching.

I think you should just use it and if it changes over time, then take to a bike shop.

Yes. If it's just the "thunk," that's normal.

Are you sure the D-ring is fully turned to 'index' mode? If it is only part-way there it can cause weird behaviour and noise.
