Bellissima!
As much as I dislike Benotto cello tape, it does look correct for that bike.
very nice.

Nice work! Looks great! Bar tape is not period correct, but I like the look. Cotton bar tape would be period correct.

Great looking bike! Lots of people don't like the Benotto tape. That is why it is still available as NOS for less than $3! I picked up my 83 'Nago with, what I think is original tape:

replaced the bars and tape with a comprimise:

I would do black old-school Cinelli or Velox, both period-correct. Always hated plastic tape.

That's a nice bike. I think the Benotto tape looks good on it.

He's looking for period correct. It would never have had that on it. If it's early 70s', I'd guess white, 1" wide, bias-ply, twill tape, which is what Bob Hovey recommended for my '69/'70 Masi.

Great looking Masi you have.

I agree with Capecodder that brown leather to match the saddle would look nice. Also nice would be cloth in a shade of yellow or brown.

SJX426- Nice looking bike as well, but I'm sorry, the blue and yellow explosion bar tape doesn't do it for me. It hurts my eyes.

Gorgeous! I love Benotto tape, but only on early 80s bikes. I vote for cloth tape, either yellow or black. Or white. It'll look great in any of those colors. But, I'd save the brown leather for an English or touring bike. A nice early 70s Italian bike demands cloth tape!

congrats!

This might give you an idea of what it would look like with black cotton tape. This was a little too small for me, or else I would never have sold it. But, it helped pay for my Cinelli SC! If I'd kept it, I would have tracked down some matching yellow brake housing.

He states. "it's period correct but?" That tell me he does not care for it even if it were period correct. So, I think brown leather would look great, and still do.

well, i like yellow housing but that is the original housing so that will stay for sure. i like the looks of the bar tape, i just dont think it is the most comfortable feeling tape there is-i wont do cork but i will consider the cloth for sure! it is a 72 italian masi-in fact i got it registered with bob hovey. thanks for all the input

If you're going to quote him, quote his whole sentence: "i think its period correct but??" Clearly he does not know if it is period correct. Brown leather would look crappy on this Italian beauty. Just my opinion.

Yes, Benotto cello tape could be nice on other bikes too. I remember having white ones on my pearl white Peugeot in the 80's. Really looked good with the bike's paintjob,.....but not the most comfortable place for hands to be on for many miles though.
