msrp on the frameset is around $850 or $950 and most shops will not discount since demand is high and they have to order it. $10 bucks is thus, a fantastic deal. i race caad9 and the set up is much more aggressive than my giant tcr carbon bike. it is a great crit bike. later.

This is a great post, I have enjoyed the CAAD pictures and found it an intelligent source of data.

As I want to buy my GF a CAAD10 - Shimano Ultegra
Cassette Shimano Ultegra 6700 - 12-25 will be changed to 11-28 for better hill climbs and downhills.
Pédalier FSA SL-K Light Carbon BB30 - 34/50

This setup seems quite good for hills and moutain climbs in la Suisse.

BUT... the CARBON SYNAPSE SRAM Apex seems a great all around contender. Anyone ever ridden it vs the CAAD10?

It is not exactly possible to compare both setups as SRAM has versatility as the widest bandwidth of gears with the SRAM Apex, there are good features like Zero Loss.

We will do a lot of Swiss Alp terrain, always hills so ups and downs. Its her first ever bike.

Hi all, newbie here posting for the first time. I'm 27 & looking to get into riding primarily for fitness, although I like going fast too

A colleague of mine has a Felt and talks about riding a lot, so last weekend I rented a CAAD10-5 and we went out. Aside from a sore rump, I really enjoyed riding, and have basically spent the last week reading forums & researching a purchase. I visited another LBS yesterday to learn about the differences between the CAAD8-5 and Synapse and see which was best for me. The pricing on the CAAD8-5 seemed decent at $1k and that's what I was thinking of doing.

Out of curiosity I called the place I rented from last weekend and checked to see what their stock was. Turns out they have a 2010 CAAD9-5 (in blue) that they would mark down to $1100. I hadn't really considered the CAAD9-5 since availability seemed scarce, but I did often see it mentioned with high regard.

I plan to go test ride tomorrow (although honestly, I am not sure how much different each bike will feel to my newb senses), but I do want to get the most bike for the money and something that I can grow into as I progress. Seems like the CAAD9-5 may fit that bill perfectly.

Very nice, I was told by Cannondale when I tried to order that frameset that they wouldn't be available until September. Being impatient, I decided to get my managers instead lol (but at least I saved some money)

I can now be a proud member of the cult. Just picked this up a couple weeks ago. 2010 CAAD 9-5 (58cm). Supposed to be one of the last USA built bikes. I love it so far.

After looking at the above pic, I got to thinking, while I like then CAAD10's and very well might purchase one eventually, I can't help thinking that the '10s lost the 'classic' look, the familiar geometric lines and overall simplistic frames that bicycles in general have had for years. This is all in comparison to the CAAD9's. There's nothing special about the CAAD9 when you look at it. You simply see it and think, it's a bicycle, serving a purpose for a racer, a commuter, perhaps a pleasure ride (although I doubt it). I'm not out to spark any kind of debate, it's just a thought. As I mentioned, I think the CAAD10's look very nice, but they seemed to have lost that perhaps generic bicycle look (whatever that means). It's not a bad thing, but I won't be getting rid of my CAAD9 any time soon.

I'm sure the design of the 9 is a timeless look. It gave the classic hourglass shape of the seat stays, I guess Cannondale thought it was getting dated. The 10 is a complete redesign.

I did back to back to back rides of the 10, SS6HM, and my at the time Six13. While the SS6 is smooth and damped the ride better than the 10...honestly...the 10 did not feel that far behind in vibration damping.

My buddy has a 6/13 and you can definitely tell a difference riding it in comparison to my aluminum CAAD9. Sometimes I feel like the welds are going to rattle apart on my ride on the super rough roads, but fortunately Florida has pretty decently paved routes. I have yet to ride a CAAD10. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm changing out my 110mm 3T stem for a shorter one, I'm looking to switch up the angle also. What are you running there? Is it their 17 degree reversible?

Picked up my CAAD9 over the weekend. Got 16 miles in yesterday, felt great. Going to get more comfortable on the bike and then pick up some pedals

Um, maybe because the rest of the drivetrain is 105?

I realize that the paint job is on their Ultegra bike (at least that's what's on the website now), but when's the last time you've seen a black Ultegra RD and Ultegra shifters with "105" printed on them?

Besides, that crank beats the pants off of any FSA crank anyway. Runs great, won't break.

Hey guys need a little help on the crank discussion,looking in to buying a new Caad. Both posts above confuse me. One said why 105 crank the other says it beats FSA.As far as i can see that is the only two options. So why is one good the other not,and what crank should i get?

For me, with a crankset, sift quality and durability trump weight savings any day of the week. You can get lighter cranks than 105, but among the ones I've owned and ridden, the most consistently reliable have been Shimano, namely the Hollowtech II series (7800/6600/5600/etc and newer). FSA cranks don't have the best reputation, and neither do Sram, for that matter.
