My lucky day continued! 1986 Raleigh Grand Prix - Reynolds 531

I wanted to add this to the miyata thread but I couldn't figure out how to edit the title after posting it, and want people to be able to find this bike by searching later.

After I scored my Miyata 1000, a co-worker brought in an 'old raleigh' he had sitting around his garage. He'd told me about it previously and said I could have it for free, of course I told him I'd take it. I was expecting an early 70s something, but its actually much newer and nicer than I could have imagined. It's in great condition, and in my size. Can't beat the price either eh? Serial number indicates it's a 1987 but this bike was known as a 1986 I believe.. maybe it continued into '97.

Saw one of those at a shop last year for $175. From what I could tell they were 531 on the main tubes. I don't know if that was accurate or not.

Geez, at least he could have cleaned it up a little and put fresh bar wrap on for you.

That's a nice gift. I like the 80's colors.

You're right, main tubes are DB 531. The stays and fork are Chrome-moly, but not Reynolds.

When it rains, it pours, eh Bennie? Nice scores, both bikes. Hope to see you out riding that old steel on the "dam loop" sometime. I'll be the codger riding the '85 Schwinn Tempo with the 10-speed brifter upgrade...

I very nearly bought that exact model on Craigs yesterday. Didn't get there in time.

I have one, and like it a lot. It's first choice for rain riding and vacations. Performs pretty much flawlessly.

Wow, that's very kind of your co-worker, I wish I had a co-worker like that (or a proper job, for that matter... currently sort of in between).

Almost have this baby restored, surprisingly, WD40 cleaned the brake lever hoods up to good as new! Just need to run by the lbs to day to get some brake lever cables and housings and some bar tape. Front wheel bearings are sealed and seem smooth so I didn't open them up, the rear needs repacked.

I noticed that the wheels have 'debris' inside the rim. The rims are weinmann. When I shake the wheel, I can hear something rattling around in there but I can't get it to move to the stem hole to get it out. The spoke holes are reinforced like this picture so the debris can't move around inside the rim to an exit point. anyone have any ideas to get this out?
