Tire advice for heavy set riders.

I am 5'11" 300lbs and ride a fixed gear. I have on my rear wheel a 700 x 25c Vittoria Randonneur. I have it set to about 110psi and dont wanna go any higher as I'm already skeptical about over inflating. I notice when I ride the tire still looks almost flat and sidewalls are flattening. Does anyone have advice for a tire that may feel better suited for my size? I have been suggested the Continental gator skin as well as moving up to a 700 x 28c.

Welcome to SS/FG. You may get some good answers here but you may also want to ask over in the Clydesdales forum.

The more you weigh, generally, the higher your tire pressure should be. There's a graph around here somewhere...

EDIT: found it: https://www.bikequarterly.com/images/BQTireDrop.pdf

You'll find some great info there.

BTW, I'm 240-250lbs, so I'm technically a Clydesdale, too.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm about 215 right now and run Schwalbe Durano Plus 25. Even when I've got a heavy bag, the tires don't even budge, and I keep them inflated to about 95/100. I think if you got Durano Plus in 28, you'd be pretty good, even at 300lbs.

I weigh about 100 lbs less than the OP but will second the Durano Plus as an awesome tire.

I'm 225 and have had around 50-60 in my bag before on 700 x 23 Specialized Armadillos at 110 without a problem.

i weight 270lbs and i notice my Randos in 25c and 28c have the same width inflated same at about 110psi (way over recommended by Vittoria). i like to know i have more rubber under me though so the 28c helps. still fits where my 25c fits.

I'm heavy, been heavier and always ride with a bag heavy as fuuuuu when I'm commuting, easily over 260 at times. have never had issues with gatorskins (23,25 and 28), tourguards, gp24s, etc and never had any issues.

I weigh about half of the OP and don't like anything smaller than 700x28.

Do you ride the durano plus as a front or rear tire? Ive been looking them up and they seem like front tires? I also ride brakeless and skid so I need a tire suited for a rear skidding tire.

Is this the tire your referring to?

Schwalbe also makes a tire called the Durano Skid - which is essentially a Durano Plus with a little bit more rubber on the tread.

Yeah, that's the tire. I run them in the front and rear, both 25's. I think the Durano Skid that Scrod mentioned might be a good choice for you if you ride brakeless. But then again, these are expensive tires to be skidding on all the time...

I've got Plus on front & rear too - 23 front/25 rear. I don't do a ton of skidding but they've held up exceptionally well over the past year.

Okay thanks guys. As for the durano skids Ive read nothing but ban reviews on them, so I might do more research.

BTW, I ride Gatorskins on my road bike. They are rated for 120PSI and I pump them to 130PSI. I'm such a rebel, always pushin' the limits.
