Brooks Competition saddle, a bit of a disappointment
I bought a Brooks Competition recently on eBay. I have no problem with the seller, who represented it accurately, and it's completely unused and unblemished. I had read about these on occasion, and had imagined that it fit somewhere between the B17 and Professional.
To my surprise, it's a dead ringer for the B5N saddle that I have, excepting the “circumcised” nose that's on a lot of older Brooks saddles. The disappointing thing about it is that the hide is actually thinner than what I think is typical for a B17 or B17N. I like riding the B5N, but it doesn't quite have the swanky feel of a saddle with a thicker hide.
OTOH, that pebbled surface is quite nice. And I'm actually glad that there's no badge on the rear -- so often those things are crummy plastic, and riveted on off-center, even on Pros!
