"City bike", huh? Skinny tires, no fenders (in coastal BC no less), no rack, no lights. So how does that qualify as a city bike? Or did somebody change the definition while I wasn't looking?

I'd prefer that over some drewed fixed gear. This bike is salvageable.

I like the Alfine rear hub but it ends there.

No. Putting an IGH on that bike is not Sacrelige...putting those stupid upright bars in combination with a Racing Perch of a saddle is Moronic though. How is a combination of Brass and Alloy Nipples a "Nerdy Consideration" and not simply called a "Retahded Idea"?? So the advantage is that in the future when he goes to true the rear wheel only Half of the nipples will crack and round off?

Here's your sign.

yes, or "Will have its wheels stomped" depending on the neighborhood

If you're locking your DeRosa up outside, let me know ahead of time where you live.

Yeah maybe If we lived in Jersey we would have to worry. This is Victoria.

It "looks nice", but I'm not really into the bike, or really any racing-to-roadster conversion. its only slightly more practical than the "fixie" it's trying to look like.

The internally geared hub is a neat idea, sure, if your plan is to destroy that minty De Rosa frame in the cold, rainy oak bay winter.

Yeah, but the point remains: it's not a city bike by any common definition of the term.

Retired racers used to this all the time. Here's a De Rosa city bike!

And that's a frame that should be in a museum.

And then there's the cognitive dissonance of seeing someone riding all upright on that thing like it's a Rudge or something.

BS.

tire size doesn't matter.
you don't need fenders if you don't ride when it rains.
you don't need lights if you don't ride when it's dark.

the fact that it is upright makes it a "city" bike in this person's mind. there isn't a punch list out there for city bike requirements.

I don't think it's that bad really. Maybe the frame is a bit to nice... something like Sheldon Browns Raleigh Competition "Superbe" might be more appropriate. Anyway, it's his bike and it's not really that bad.

Yeah, but the blood thirsty baboon is my favorite character by a long shot... followed by George Liquour and Wilbur Cobb.

Did he Drew it up? No.
Did he make it worse? Yes.
Can it be rebuilt as intended? Yes.

Point made.

Ren & Stimpy,...where has the time gone? My first impression is one of Blasphemy. But then again I think, what the hell, it's not bike. I wouldn't have done 'this' to it myself, but I'm open to expanding the usage of a good Italian frame into something more practical than a thoroughbred race bike.

Tire size does matter for ride quality, which presumably is something he desires considering he pussified the rest of the bike so he can sit more upright and not have to use derailleurs.

I'm not entirely sure who this guy is or what he does with his bikes, but to me a city bike would be something you could let out of your sight for more than .5 seconds; having actually been in a city before and seen what happens to nice bikes.

i usually like the look of bikes of this style, ie road bikes with cruiser bars. but for some reason this one comes off as awkward. has something to do with either the seat, bars, drivetrain and/or chrome fork. i keep blocking out different combinations with my finger while looking at it but I havent determined which aspects are making my eyes the most uncomfortable.

i think it's the drivetrain esp the smallish chain-ring
