New tire recommendation for Trek FX3

Hi folks. So I managed to wreck my stock Bontrager H2 Hard-Case Lite tire yesterday. I'm swinging by the FLBS today to look for tires, but I'd appreciate some recommendations. My bike is a 2018 Trek FX3, which came stock with 700x32c tires and has 17c rims. I'm checking with Trek to find out what the largest tire that can be accommodated is, but I'd definitely like to go no smaller than 25mm. Tubes or tubeless are both okay.

This is my commuter bike, so it sees ~100 miles per week. I ride 100% roads, no off-road whatsoever, but the roads here can be pretty rough/poorly maintained and there's lots of gravel and construction debris, which is likely how I managed to get a tear all the way through the tread of my current tires. Wet grip isn't a concern as it rains very infrequently here.

I'd like to avoid an outright gravel/off-road tire, as, again - 0% off-road riding - and I'd like to maintain my go-fast ability as much as possible. That said, weight isn't really a big deal given this is a commuter with fenders and a rack, and I'd like something that isn't going to get a tread tear in 1000 miles or less. I suspect Gatorskins/Hardshells are similar to my current tires in terms of toughness, so I think it's probably a good idea to go to the next step beyond that. I heard about the Michelin Protek Cross/Cross Max, which seem like they might be good, although they're absurdly heavy at 1 kg each.

Ideas?

Michelin Protek but don't get the 40mm version it won't fit at max pressure. They run a little large. You should be able to fit the 32mm version at any pressure. It will give you some flat protection & may measure a tad wider than the same size H2 you had. I liked the tires a lot & was thinking of mounting them on a bike I'm gonna sell, targeting city bombing around, such as commuting like you describe

Sounds like a perfect candidate for the Marathon Greenguard HS 420. In your choice of 28, 32, 35, or 38. In reflex strip which may be an added bonus in the city.
