Ridden a couple of times and put on a hook until last weekend.
Very complete and original.
Bar tape and tires believed to be original.
Air in tires not original.
Brake hoods shot.
Thoughts?

Round tube aluminum Treks are nice rides, and most of them didn't come with a 7400 group. I think that's where most of the value lies. If you're planning on selling the entire bike, $300-350. You could probably sell just the group for ~$250, maybe more, I haven't looked these up lately.

Ok...finally checking back. Thanks for the assessment. Mixed emotions......bummed I wont be able to retire based on the value but also glad it is worth what I paid and I can ride it and enjoy it

FWIW...I wouldn't mind trying to trade it for an old Cannondale track same size and vintage...

I had a Trek sponsorship in 1989 and 1990 and I was under the impression that 2000s came as frame sets only or at least ours did. Ours were all white and built up with the new Ultegra.

Finding the RWB fade examples on the web is no easy task. According to Vintage Trek, this was a one year only option....?

I'm a thrifty guy for sure, but I would pay $350 for that bike, given unique fade paint and pristine 7400 group. I'm a sucker for both of those. Last I knew those lever hoods are unobtainium which is my one big negative.

You might find another buyer in your area, less thrifty than me, that would pay more. In my area, it would take a while to sell at $350 as most buyers don't want DT shifting bikes.


In my area, in the used market, buyers can find name brand bikes with more gears and STI shifting for $150 and up. Buyers are suckers for # of gears. "Wow, a 24 speed bike for $200, why would I pay $300 for a 14 speed bike. NFW!!"

Depends on your location, which is unknown. This is depressing values on the vintage stuff.

Agreed that the value here is in the components and with the pricing already expressed. $350 tops in a good market, and that's assuming those are clincher rims. Trek aluminum frames from that period are not particularly sought after.

As Bill mentioned, replacement Shimano hoods are rare and very expensive- think $65 plus. However, if it is your intention to ride it rather than sell it, Rustines replacement hoods for Campagnolo Record lever bodies are an exact fit, and they come in black for around $25 shipped.

If you intend to ride it, replace those tires and tubes. It will ride better and be safer as well. If you intend to sell it, PM me or email at rccardr@cox.net

I have an identical bike in beautiful shape and I still ride it, with tubulars. It works perfectly and feels great.
