Tire loading
In a serious gravel ride, there will be mud, no? So mud loading can be an issue.

It is all about the ride conditions of the day, and what the organizers elect to do about it, or not. Land Run 100 some years has been a borderline freezing absolute mudpit...and some years it has been hard and dry and fast. For example.

not sure why its assumed there will be mud in a serious gravel ride. Also not sure what a serious gravel ride is. Do you mean a race or do you mean just a hard effort ride? Either way there doesnt need to be mud.
my experiences with mud are that it's not fun and I try to avoid it. If i cant, then i try to minimize it.

In my experience, Gravel mud isn't really mud like in mountain biking (or cyclocross). Its just wet dirt (i.e. not thick or sticky at all). and in summer and fall my rides are mostly dry. But that is my region. Georgia has some pretty sticky stuff. ;-)
Anywhere that cars drive where I live is thin mud. If I'm going on single track or a jeep trail, things are be different.
If things do get sticky, I'll look for puddles to ride through to wash things down a little. :-O
