Rescued this piece of work from a dumpster. Rattle can painted black, sadly. Looks like an early Diamondback steel road bike, has lugs. Its seems like a road-touring model, with relaxed geometry, long seatstays, rack eyelet braze-ons. Looks like a mix of 1050, 1055, and rx100 components. My guess is early 1990s. Diamondback catalogs are hard to find. Any info before I waste my time?

Looks like one from the crossover years, wherein they said both Centurion and Diamondback branding. My guess would be a Venture with upgraded parts. They may have had a higher end model with a long rear triangle also, however.

Based on the semi vertical dropouts lugs and 7 speed I would say it's a 87-89 production bike most likely a 88 model. They only had the Diamondback label and these features for about a year in the late 80's.

The front wheel sure looks out of place on the bike. Are those bullhorn handlebars turned upside-down? Why would someone turn them like that?

Before you do anything on the bike, look for the serial number, and check with your local PD, or https://bikeindex.org/stolen

I wonder if it would be possible to remove the outer paint without damaging the paint/decals under.

There's a WSI sticker under the repaint, indicating a USA market model. WSI did not concurrently offer Centurion road bicycles and Diamond Back road bicycles in the USA. The Diamond Back road bicycles had their debut for the 1990 model year. The presence of lugs indjcates an entry level, road sport model, circa 1990-1991. Based on stay eyelets and blue colour it is likely is an Avenue. The 105SC and RX100 components are replacements.

The bars are just a pair of those really bad 1990s "ergo" bars angled up so that the ramps are angled up. My Lemond came with a pair, which I ditched ASAP

I think it's some variant of the Diamond Back Venture, as well. Here's my 1991, as found -


There isn't a lot of information on these out there, and catalog scans appear to be non-existent. It's from right about the time Centurion was being phased out and the branding was becoming all Diamond Back. It's also near the end of lugs for these bikes.

The Tange Infinity tubing they're built with is pretty decent stuff - the main tubes are all 0.9-0.6-0.9 butted chro-moly with 0.8 stays. It takes a 27.0 mm seat post, and feels relatively light and springy - even with the beefiest seat stays I think I've ever seen on a road bike. I have had good luck with using Lacquer Thinner on a rag to remove the spray paint . just rub lightly and dont let it sit to long..
