I like to take a chain breaker tool with me and a few spare links, I've had my chain break on me one to many times, but that's usually if I ride 12 miles plus. It's been a few years since then, now I'm just doing shorter rides as I try to get my old endurance back. I don't take anything with me.

I'm awful about this; maybe I took the Boy Scout motto too seriously, but I carry spares of nearly everything, and a bunch of tools, some redundant. The only thing I haven't thrown in is the 12" adjustable wrench I bought to adjust my headset.

Overall it's kind of re-iterated why I asked in the 1st place and that I'm carrying a load of stuff I don't really need ... most of our rides never get more than 20 miles from home and the further away we are ... the closer we are to a bike shop

Totally get though that people carry more for longer rides / touring, think I'm going to break it down into 2 separate packaged things ... one for everyday rides and something else with "extras" in that's easy to grab without having to think about and check it before I go.

Quite tempted with the bottle bag's, I've small frames and my 29er ..... if I put a frame bag into the triangle I can't get a single water bottle in there (irrespective of how small it is) but with one those I could at least get one in there ....
My gravel bike has a mount under the down tube so would get on there and as this is the bike I'm more likely to take for longer rides in the summer, would leave space for 2 water bottles in the triangle which would be very welcome on those hotter days and hasn't been an option for me up until now!!!

Granted I could just everything into small saddle bag but I have larger saddle bags for if I need to take spare clothing ... or peel off layers as I warm up but don't need them most of the time so take them off.

You do mean "minimum", right? That presumes that I'm not riding so far distant that I'll need to be self sufficient for more major repairs.

Minimum = repair a flat tire
Minimum+ = repair a flat tire, tighten a fastener on the bike, adjust brake or derailleur (such as with a brand new build that's on its shakedown)

So, for minimum that'd be a mini-pump, two Pedro's tire levers, one innertube, one fresh patch kit. The mini-pump might be bottle cage mounted or might be in a pocket. If the bike is my fixed gear, I add the combination stubby 15mm wrench/tire lever.

For minimum+, I'd add a multitool.

For mountain bike riding, I carry more. Because crashes. I always have a multitool and chain breaker with quick link. I also carry a spare derailleur hanger for my frame. Sometimes you have to limp home without a rear derailleur...

All I really care to always have in the saddle bag is tube and pump, but I always also carry patch kit, levers and multi-tool.

A few things extra, since they don't take much space or are easier to keep up with on the bike. Spoke wrench for that bike. Chain breaker. Something to boot a tire. Sometimes a ziptie and a small blade.

Some of both. The first aid kit generally only has a few doses each of benadryl, ibuprofen, and aspirin. If you have a breakdown you might miss a dose of your prescription.
If you need it. I'm on a beta blocker, epinephrine is no fun! I have to ask for no-epi stuff at the dentist, for instance.

I have a spare tube, patch kit, tire levers and multi-tool. If I am going out all day and I remember to charge it, I bring a power bank and cable for my phone. I have a pump mounted on the frame. Wallet with ID, insurance card and credit card in my jersey pocket.

I have never actually changed a tire. I know how it is done, but I have been very lucky so far and haven't needed to. (which is amazing considering the condition of the roads around here). If I'm fumbling, I'm sure someone will stop to help me as long as I have everything I need with me.

Not if his chain already has a quick link on it. Mine does, and I carry a spare as well. I can see myself losing one of the links during a tire change...Murphy's law.

How's this for an idea... Carry a white hankerchief to rest under your itsy bitsy bike parts, on the ground/grass/dirt. That's another way to help from losing parts....and a ziplock bag too!

If your chain breaks/bends at a location other than where your main quick link is currently, you'll need a 2nd quick link to fasten the two ends, after removing the broken/bent links with the chain break tool.
