Its easy to assume things and miss the point altogether. Without the details of that race, its impossible go know how much drafting was involved and how much individual rider/bike aerodynamics were involved. So your numbers are just a supposition.

You've made it quite clear that you personally think any combination that you can't get you head around sucks .... you really don't have to keep saying it.

The OP was considerate enough to have the post moved to the hybrid forum since you seem to have taken offence to it being posted in the road forum -why don't you try being considerate enough to drop it?

No those numbers while rough, are based on wind tunnel data, and the widely known fact that rider position is an order of magnitude more important than wheels when it comes to aerodynamics.

I've done a number of time trials, and raced off and on for 30 plus years. I've got a pretty good idea of the aerodynamics of riding a bike, and the relative advantages of various equipment specs.

And it's bat **** crazy to put zipps on a flat tire bike. 3 pages in and no one has even offered a cogent counter to that position.

I can't answer because I wasn't organising the event.
There were many in the category and it ws a great success. Basically our events here have categories to cover a variety of cycling tastes as Japanese view participating and personal best more important than the actual win. The more categories, the more participants and greater the event. Basically a carnival of cycling ending with an Elite Road Bike crit with several European and Asian teams.
Now, pics please.

How about less fighting and more pics? We’re ALL cyclists for heavens sake, no one is better than the other and arrogance over what bike handlebar or wheel is better is just childish silliness. Some people need to leave the sandbox behind.

Not too long ago I converted my Giant road bike to flat bars, mainly because I was trying to find a more comfortable riding position for any period longer than about 2 hours. I have ridden road bikes all my life, and could easily ride a bike with different geometry (have owned various hybrids) but wanted something that was light enough to maybe continue to keep up with people I occasionally ride with. Not a mechanic, so my local bike shop converted.

I don't think it is terribly elegant looking; it seems an unusual look to many traditional roadies, but I had two choices, simply sell it and shop for something more fitting, or try the modification to see how it felt. I wouldn't have known without converting it. Now, as it turns out, I am planning to sell it and purchase something with less aggressive geometry. which will likely be a .... uhm, perhaps flat bar road bike, perhaps not.

I like it. How does it ride compared to when you had the drop bars on it?

To be honest, I think it would be best to, PULL, the whole topic off the board, let's face it, the roadies will NEVER let you live it down that you, might "prefer" flat bars to drop bars, even though the bike is WAY more closer to a "road bike" set up than a hybrid set up! I mean, think about it, a 50/34 crank with 11-25/26/27 is a ROAD BIKE gearing set up, not a "hybrid" set up. But if you can't RACE it it's not a Road Bike, SIGH! Pull this off the board so us hybrid riders don't have to put up with the attitude from, "almighty 41"! PLEASE!!

I actually love how this bike rides. Not completely sure what to base that on, just the feel, its reasonably light, just under 20 lbs I believe, shifts perfectly. I may have gotten a little bit of relief for longer rides with the new bars, but not huge. Anyway, I will likely purchase a Trek 7.7 fx in carbon, if it seems comfortable.

After reading some of the posts regarding this matter, I had NO idea this was such a polarizing thing to do (modifying a bike to fit one's needs). Interesting.

Road: frame, brakes, stem, crank, seatpost, saddle, tires (23s).
Non-road: wheels, handlebar, pedals, brake levers, shifter.
A hybrid in my book... but it can't mount 38 tires.

There I have to agree with you - I wouldn't race with ANYTHING on a flat tire bike!

Looks similar from that angle, but it's a 3D72 dynamo hub. The lights weren't installed yet.

I'm not sure what I like better the bike or the patio. It looks like your sense of style extends to all facets of life. Great pic.
