Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think the difference between running (and these others) is that there are almost zero mentally-healthy runners; if you're happy you're simply not going to go do that when you could go play a game with your friends. There are certainly mentally-healthy beanbag-slanted-board players.
I was a sane runner. I'm a solo act in general.

physical activity is important to me. Balancing it so that it doesn’t become excessive is the part I have to work on. If I was single I would be cycling all day long and that’s not healthy either. I tend to be on the extreme side, either I do it all or do nothing, but recognizing that I’m able to stay ahead of it.

He's got urinary tract inflammation. No infection and only a few crystals in the sample. He's better than he was put seems to be out of sorts some days. He gets pills and some pain meds if he seems uncomfortable. Thanks for asking.

I think focusing on diet and losing weight while allowing the power to build "naturally" with harder effort rides would probably have a better return on the W/kg metric. I have another event on March 21st that I want to show up and do well on. I'm assuming it's going to be a 100K, so I need to start doing longer endurance rides on the weekends.
Honestly, I like calorie counting - it's effective and if you're moderately active, you don't have to be an Ascetic - I think that it gives you more leeway, rather than less.

Last year, I started tracking my weight and calorie counting in late Jan (I think). I started out at 212. I aimed for a 750 cal deficit per day. On days when I did an hour on the trainer or walking, no problem, even including a beer a treat at the end of the day. I was under 200 by late March.

Sitting down at one of my favorite hole in the wall Mexican places for a much needed recovery meal.

I was able to get in a metric this morning, but there was a ***** of a cross wind - one of those deals where you're really looking forward to turning around, on that out and back, but turning around is nothing but a disappointment when it finally happens.

Oh well, better than the couch and I get to eat pork in chile verde.

I hope he is better soon. Speaking of healing critters, I hope our resident veterinarian, Dr Heathpack is doing ok. Anyone know?

My poor kitty had the urinary tract obstruction badly enough that he needed the surgery. He was fine after that. Fingers crossed yours is ok after the meds.

Yeah. The point is to prevent that. I hear it's expensive.

The problem with calorie counting for me is that it actually encourages me to eat out more. I can just select an item from the database and move on with my life. I would occasionally build recipes and put out the servings, etc. but it was such a pain. When it becomes a hassle, I tend to take the easy way out which ends up being less healthy.

I have a couple of small tweaks I am going to make and just go from there. I know what calories in and out look like for me because I have done the counting thing enough, so I'm not doing it totally blind. Just trying to cut some indulgences and concentrate on cooking more and eating real food.

Speaking of health, my entire household has been sick or getting sick for something like a week now. I'm last on the list and I'm trying my hardest to dodge it, but I think I can feel it coming on. Could just be me psyching myself out. I already gave coworkers the heads up that I might be a carrier and disappear in a day or two. Going to try and get in some good zwifting tonight before I fall apart.

I was just thinking that calorie counting homemade foods sounds like a gigantic PITA.

How have you figured out your daily caloric burn accurately enough to make calorie counting effective? Do you just eat at a big enough estimated deficit to make being a few hundred calories off not a huge deal?

nice! my legs are still sore, part of me wanted to push through, but two days in a row of soreness figured I needed the day off. Gunna try 50 tomorrow, or my first metric.

That wind seemed like a pain in the ass.

And then special food the rest of his life. I've been paying US$30 for a 3.5 kilogram bag for the past couple years.

If you've never counted calories, I would recommend doing it for at least a few weeks to get a real handle on it. Nothing like actually writing down what you eat to make you realize what things are blowing your budget, etc. Any of the free apps like myfintesspal or loseit are a good start. Once you do it for a while, you get a pretty good handle on what a deficit looks like and how to maintain it. Not that I have the discipline to do so (obviously) but once you do it long enough, there is no lying to yourself about exactly how many calories are in that donut/slice of pizza.
