Fully intended to do an Imperial Century today, but we had an earthquake that woke me up last night, then later I didn't wake up early enough to get started on something so ambitious, so I opted for a metric century. Gonna try a hundred-miler next week, I think.

Hi all. I had a few days off riding early in the month, as I needed new pedals, but I've managed to ride a bit since. Breakdown in kms.

September 1: 34.18. Bearings in one pedal went bad during this ride. Wasn't able to repair it, nor could the mechanic at a local shop, and Kona never responded to my e-mail if its warranted. Anyway...
2-7. No riding but got in some hiking.
08: 18.56. New pedals arrived!
09: 35.75
10: 22.95
11: 40.13
12: 50.80
13: 33.66
14: 22.32
15: 39.45
16: 22.63
17: 40.69
18: 20.05
19: 54.36. New longest ride.

So far: 435.53 kms / 270.63 miles

Stopped for a photo by a new mural while on today's ride.

While on my longest ride yet.

After being off my bike since mid July with work/life/hamstring issues, I did a 50.5 mile ride today. Let's shoot for 200 for the month

We left for vacation Wed. Original plan had been to drive to New Orleans for 2 days and then on for a week at the beach in Gulf Shores Al. When Sally came along I canceled New Orleans when it looked like they would be hit. Then the storm moved and Gulf Shores took a direct hit. Spent the first night in Natchitoches La, famous for being where the movie Steel Magnolias was filmed. Got a quick 15 miles in. Once we realized that we weren’t going to Gulf Shores we sat in the parking lot at a gas station and booked a condo in Destin. Hopefully the rest of the vacation goes a little smoother. Say a prayer for the people in the Gulf Shores/Pensacola area, they looked to have gotten it pretty bad from what I saw online.

Sat update: Made it to Destin yesterday afternoon and went out for a short ride this morning. Cloudy here but nice temps
Sun update: It was cloudy and overcast but went out for a ride. Started with light rain and I kept riding. Eventually it started raining harder and had to head home. Ended up with 11 miles

I ride alternate days...Tu,Th, Sun...Sundays are non-MUP as there are just too many folks on the trail those days. I walk early on MWF, and have a support commitment for the SO those days, so squeezing in rides of any length is tough.

Forecast is for a goodly blow to start up about 5pm tonight and last through late morning tomorrow. Steady winds around 25mph, gusts north of 50mph. The trail crew is going to have plenty of chainsaw work tomorrow, and the wind will be funneling right down the 3-6% grade that is mlles 5-10 of the MUP. So tomorrow's 44 miles will have to be made up where I can squeeze them in. Sigh.

I walked the MUP for 7 miles the morning after the wind storm. Branches and debris everywhere, whole trees down across the path. By the next morning, our air quality numbers had skyrocketed due to wildfires. Friday was the first day the air was fit to ride in, and it poured rain. Considered going out yesterday, walked the lower MUP section again as a scouting pass. All good, Today, 44.4 miles. Tomorrow is consumed by a dental appointment and truck rack install. Rain resumes Wednesday into the weekend. I may be able to get rides in next Sunday and Tuesday. But my original goal is likely shot.

Since all the organized rides I signed up for this year have been canceled, I’ve been making up my own unorganized rides. There’s a Taco Bell that’s 31 miles from my house, so I dubbed today’s ride “The Taco Bell Metric Century.” It was fun, and I got lunch at the turnaround point. Still planning an Imperial Century this week, but now it’s a question of which bike. The Tarmac’s rear wheel got out of true and it’s being tended to, so I rode the Allez Elite today. It’s a little heavier, but could probably go 100 miles easily (it’s done it before), but it’ll need new tires, the ones on there now are getting a bit worn. And the Tarmac could be flight-ready in a day or two. We’ll see.

Where are you located at?
My first thought is that walking 7 miles would take me days, I don't walk, I stroll.
My second thought is that it might be fun with a mountain bike.
When we had massive rain and flooding here last year, 36 inch pipes were placed across the MUP's to pump water over the berms into the river, I would ride my bike and hoist it over the large pipes to get my ride in.

looks like I’m going to have to cut back on my riding to let my shin heal .
i thought riding would help , but it’s been bothering me since last Halloween when I fell on my bike and bruised the bone .

With the off time I took , the leg got better even though I was walking everyday .
lost a couple of pounds as a bonus .
Riding five miles two days ago , it started bothering me again and even with just a three mile ride today I can tell riding makes a difference.
I’ll continue off and on and try to get this thing well for good .
