This guy's got a really nice looking Raleigh Superbe, '60s 23" frame, full chaincase, rod brakes, all the fixins. Bike's in NYC.
Wish I had some dough.

This seems super cheap for an all original, fine condition Grand Touring especially in the Bay Area. I've been on the fence for a few days about buying it, but six bikes in a one bedroom apartment is getting a little ridiculous.

If I kick out my girlfriend and get a twin mattress bed, I might just be able to get both bikes...

Don't go near that Schwinn Prelude. You'll never want to let go of it.
I am selling one, and I'll be sorry to see it go. I bought it just to flip it, and I am astonished at how nicely it rides. It's a total sleeper.
The Motobecane is much prettier but a bit less practical.

I did something similar recently. I bought a Giant Allegre on CL for $100 and just sold it for $275. I put about $20 into it and some elbow grease. Fun project. But now I have cash in my pocket and I think either that Schwinn or Motobecane needs to be my new toy.

I like your style. You're telling me not to buy it, but with (not-so-subtle) undertones to snag it. Right?

Well, in order to get the benefits of both the Prelude and the Motobecane, you'll have to get both. I've had two Motobecanes, and they're nice, but I've never tried a Grand Record.
The ride of the Prelude is magical.

I vote the Prelude...someone needs to start a poll thread for Collin: Prelude or Motobecane. At least with the Prelude you'd never be falsely accused of having a BikesDirect bike!
fwiw, i have two MB GTs and there's nothing wrong with the bikes. i guess a '70s//80s LHT would be how i'd describe them. the columbus framed bike will be a much nicer ride & have better resale value I would think....oh, and no French parts if that's an issue with you (not with me, but i'm just saying....)

Sketchy but if I lived in Reno I'd go talk to them...
https://reno.craigslist.org/bik/1618358764.html
Hey, I got this weird old bike. Called DeRosa. Looks like older 80's Italian, but me is way too lazy to research.
Makes me an offer.
Think this one of those things where the frame worth most?
I dunno.
Thanks for looking!

/\ Depends on which side of S Virginia the seller is on... I bet it's a trick to get a lot of interest and start a bidding war. Though there are plenty of people in Reno that are really like that, you would expect that kind ad from Sun Valley or North Reno. I wish I was more bike savvy when I lived there, life would have been so much better.

Buy or not to buy...
+1 on the Schwinn, -1 on the Motobecane.
I've always had a problem with a bike being labeled "Grand Tourer" with a geometry that is anything but relaxed. Perhaps it's just me.
In any event, the more expensive Schwinn strikes me as a much better deal.

Wow, I go to bed last night and wake up this morning to find that there is a poll in my name! I'm sitting in a coffee shop and decided to check the thread. Hilarious!
See you all on the poll (this just sounds so wrong)

reno cr de rosa update...............the guy just put the bike back on and now says he knows all about it and has it at 1500.00!!!!!!!!!!!!
also it IS the same bike i looked at a year ago because i remember it had a bunch of low end parts on it. this guy is either a flake or??? he knows his stuff because he was at a bike show in reno and i was talking to him about vintage stuff. nice frame-lousy parts-flaky seller. i would stay away
