Garmin power off "low battery" at 87% WTF ?

my Garmin 1030 cut off with a "Low Battery" warning and the battery is at 87 % ?

What have I done to deserve this ? What offerings do I need to make to the tech gods to fix this ?

Seriously the Garmin on-device menus are ridiculous. I've had this unit for 2 years and generally good luck with it

Short of a device reset, any suggestions welcome !

I usually forgive one or two transgressions. Though you might go ahead and do the reset. Garmin will probably ask you to do that.

Does this happen repeatedly? Garmin support is your friend if you call them on the phone. Even if it's out of warranty.

Iride01 thanks for that ! I turned the "battery saver" off. that's probably what's doing it.

need to discharge the unit down to 25% or so.

thanks !

I've only used the battery saver for times that I'm out riding and got caught with a low battery and it suggested I turn on the battery saver. So it helped to make the device last till the ride was complete. I've always turned the battery saver off after I got the thing charged.

Did it seem to help with the issue. Maybe I'll turn battery saver on and see if I get a low battery from my Edge 530 before it's battery gets to what I feel is low.

Of course are you familiar with how batter saver works? It turns off your screen until you press a button or on your 1030, maybe all you have to do is touch the screen. The screen only stays on briefly to let you see what ever it is you are displaying. But while the screen is off, it still keeps track of your ride.

yup got it. for the 2 hour rides that I do battery saver is not really needed. I got it shut off. And what you describe is exactly what happened. Blanked out, quick "on" if the radar detects something or button press.

thanks for the assist.

Battery saver reduces power usage. It shouldn't have the effect of turning the device off like this.
