1986 Raleigh Marathon

So here's a bike I cleaned up. I know how much I invested in it, but can anyone give me an idea of the bike's value in this condition?

I've replaced the tires, tubes, bar tape, saddle, cables, bearings (wheels/headset/bb), pedals, and chain.

Here's some before...

...and after shots:

Thanks for any insight.

I have the same bike in my basement in "before" condition. If it were spring or summer, I'd expect a selling point of $125-$150 in this area. I'd have a hard time getting that now. It really depends on your market. Nice bikes, but nothing special. Good job cleaning it up.

It's a good looking bike, and looks like you cleaned it up really well.

I'm not familiar with the marathon, but my guess would be it fell low to mid in the range, so no special value. As a ready to ride bike, I would say it's worth $100-150.

If you can find a nutty Reynolds steel collector, this bike could fetch you more money than its ride, because it is one of the few made with 575 steel and it is in great shape.

Ummm.... My Marathon is 502, not 575.

Depending on market, ask maybe $150-180, settle for $120. It's a mid-to-low range bike boomer, made in Taiwan. I really like mine, but they don't have pedigree of a more expensive bike.

You did a great job on it. Raleighs can command two or so, even lesser models; poorer shape and lesser tubing. EjustE has a good point. By '85 they were 502. '82, '83 & 4 had the 575 from what I've been able to ascertain. 150 as fahrrad said is a going price for a mid-level bike. Yours is a Raleigh and a really nice one so in the spring it could get 200. I can see even more. Then again, I would keep it.

Ah... I was going off the "looks" compared to what I found doing image searches to determine the date of the bike, hehe. Perhaps it's of an earlier year. I should go grab the serial... It is 575 indeed, and very cool to know that it was one of the rarer bikes.

Thanks for all the appraisals (and the compliments), guys. This board is an awesome resource!

$150 around here, during prime selling season. Low end bike, but alloy rims, condition, and Raleigh brand are plusses for sure!
