Motobecane Le Champion Valuation

$495 is the asking price for this Motobecane LeChampion, but I'd have to factor in shipping costs as well. I'm told that the crank, pedals, derailleurs, brakes, bottom bracket and headset are all Campagnolo Nuovo Record. I'm pretty new to bike buying, but this seems like a pretty good deal to me. Does this seem worth it to anyone else?

Also, could someone let me know what that Huret component is? Is it an odometer?

Huret is classic old style odometer. Decent bike that I would have loved to have in the 1980's and gladly paid the now asking price then. Now, I don't know as compatibility with new technology is so difficult.

looks very nice...if it fits, go for it, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Never hurts to try bargaining a little, but I think this is a fair price (at least where I live).

It's a big frame size (58? 60?); knock about 100$ off the price. French thread HS, Swiss Bottom bracket, take off another 50. I'd bargain some, the seller is going to have trouble moving a bigger bike.

You can find something similar in the 300-400 range. Nicely equipped, and looks to be in fine condition, but overpriced IMO.

That sounds like a fair price to me, 531 and campy NR have a knack to run the price up quickly, but bargaining is always worth a shot. Looks like the seller did the minimum to get the bike ride-ready (replaced rear tire, chain, brake hoods, and bar tape)--nothing wrong with that but it might need a tune up, new cables/housing and a front tire in the near future. Add that to your bargaining power.

Non stainless steel spokes, campy hubs and skewers knock a $100 off the price.

This bike has been on CL for a while. A couple months for sure. Started out at $650? I think. I think $495 is a good deal. But you may have some bargaining room if he hasnt had any offers. All depends on the sellers situation. And in the dead of winter you may have even more bargaining power.

Its a very nice bike. I had an older version and liked it a lot. Cant go wrong with Campy NR.

According to a post on the CR list, it was probably sold yesterday? $495 seemed a little on the steep side, given that it isn't a full Campy gruppo. A local forum member sold a nicer, older one last year for about the same price. Still, a very nice bike. The new owner should be proud.
