The Crown, while not (from what I understand) 100% accurate, still is an excellent story that was quite well done.

"Black Mirror".
It is a UK show that has released only a handful of episodes over the years.
But Netflix stepped in and paid to have 6 episodes released a few weeks ago.
There are another 6 to be released next year.

HBO seems intent on showing skin... that is their big "seller," regardless of the actual quality of the story... the modus operandi seems to be "stretch the story and show plenty of skin..."

Netflix seems to be pushing their stuff, and old TV these days... and really poor third rate hollywood pictures.

I could be wrong on this... it may be that the contracts are written by actors agents et al, to not allow streaming... and force DVD sales and rentals.

None the less, the Netflix stuff seems to rely on stretching a story line over several weeks... when it could likely be told in a 2 hour movie; the "expansive filler" is plain boring.
I gather from your post that you have never watched a series produced by the old-guard broadcast networks. They have every flaw you described above, and have the added bonus of having anything creative or interesting removed by focus groups, lest some grumpy old man with nothing better to do writes an angry letter to an advertiser.

Face it - 'television' is dead.

I have indeed watched old guard TV series a time or two... seems they had better writers in the day... these days the formula just seems tired and old... and too often what should have been a 2 hour movie is stretched to 13 weeks... Yeah, a lot of that seemed to happen in the '70s too... "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" is a perfect bad example... started with a somewhat worthwhile premise in the first few shows, then degraded to the "monster of the week" show.

Consider though that old guard TV gave us The Twilight Zone... so it wasn't as if all old guard was bad.

Longmire
Hemlock Grove

I like Amazon's. Bosch series quite a bit
Not Netflix, but sinc I watched all the current Longmire episodes, I am trying to get into Justified, -- so far it's a slow starter for me

I enjoy Westworld on hbo , but I can't sit and watch 5 straight episodes of that like I could Longmire

I thought Limitless was incredible! I don't think it was by Netflix, but I heard Netflix is producing the next season.

And Stranger Things, duh!

We just started in on Game of Thrones. It's a bit confusing at first, but once you learn to tell a Lannister from a Stark, things fall into place.

One of my mottos is better late than never...

The AMC show Turn: Washington's Spies is pretty good if you like historically based dramas. It's not perfectly accurate, but it'd be way boring if that were the case.
House of Cards is a good one to get into for a long run for sure.
Daredevil was one of my favorite Marvel shows for a while.
Arrow and the Flash have started to go the way Smallville, in that they are becoming rather soap opera-esque.

I really liked Ozark. The similarities to Breaking Bad are undeniable, but it was still really good. One of the best TV shows I've seen in awhile.

I'm really liking Ozark as well, the cinematography is excellent

Not seen breaking bad though; just doesn't appeal to me
