Should I be worried about this?

Boot the tire. I have done it a dozen times with excellent results. Story: In 2007 just got a new set of rubber. First commute in and sliced the tire just like you have. Went all the way through the casing and into the tube. Booted tire with a rubber patch on the side of the road. 500 miles later got another flat. The boot wore through, telling me the tube pushed up through the hole with the boot and wore down as I rode until 500 miles went by and punctured the tube. this time I moved it to the front and put a new boot on. About 500 miles later was in the same situation. Moral of the story: BOOT THE TIRE twice, then get rid of it.
Have done many boots since then and before that incident, but none were reinforcing as large a cut as the one just described, and all went the distance to the end of the life of the tire. Boot the tire.

I have been riding it as it is and the tear doesn’t seem to be expanding. I will use that rear tire on the trainer this winter and then replace it with a new one next spring.
