Eaton's Cobra - Cantilever Brakes
It's really funny how things show up in 3's. I'd never seen an Eaton's Cobra before (sold by the famous now-defunct Eaton's Department Store) until I saw one at the Co-op. Then, two days later - another! This time I struck up a conversation with a guy who was parking his Cobra at the grocery store. He mentioned he's ridden it for 40 years and was the original owner. THEN, during a reclaim drive two weeks later, another Cobra reared it's head. I found the canti-levers interesting. Anyone seen these guys on another bike? Note the somewhat proprietary pads. I'll see about getting a photo or two of the whole bike.

Maybe a lime green Canadian Tire Supercycle around 1970. It had fake lugs, slip ons over welded gaspipe if I remember correctly. Flashback!

Are those stamped cantis?
I'm not a fan of DC-960s= but I'd rather have the DC-960s.

I have run across a couple of these bikes, over the years. Not particularly impressive and my guess would be that those brakes shoes/pads would be tough to source...
The bike does have a headbadge, though...

Cobras Everywhere! Only GI Joe can save the day now. I think the fabrication method is stamping but they look nicely stamped. The trussed-up set shown in the photos was put into the parts bin at the Co-op. Those unique pads have interesting mounting. There is a lot more pad allowance to wear before it becomes useless. The guy who owned the original (who'd said he'd ridden it all over the place) must have bagged another set of pads from someplace else because it's doubtful they could've lasted 40 years. He stuck with the same department store bike for that long. Says something.

Here's another local one, sans cantis. Careful in handling it lady; Cobras Bite!
