Bullhorn 50cm+?

Yo

Looking for some bullhorns, but I'm having serious issues with riding a bike with handlebars smaller than around 50cm in width, hence I'm looking for such.

But luck has it, I can't locate anything, no less with 25,4/22,2 measurements.

Am I looking for something that does not exist?

Perhaps some drops that I can cut myself, I don't mind. But the width and/or diameter seems to be an issue..

Those sound like the measurements for the clamp sizes.

50cm seems really wide. How big are you?

Lol, no I'm far from the mountain.. haha. But I've always ridden bikes with 50+ wide bars, so whenever I ride a bike with drops or the one I have now with the 44cm bullhorn I have as spare, I feel I loose all control of the bike. It feels twitchy and the leverage of the steering is gone, it feels like. Hence I run a 52cm flatbar at the moment.

My stem is now with 25,4 clamp size, and my brakelever is 22.2. I notice many bullhorns are 26 or some variant. If it's so, so be it and I'll get a new lever and stem, but if I can find something that fits my current gear, I'd be a happy camper.

Should I f*** it all and try the regular width?

50cm bullhorns having a 25.4mm clamp area would flex like al dente linguine.

You could always keep your flat bars and get some bar end grip extensions used for mountain bikes. Might give you that little extension you're looking for. Otherwise you could try the 44cm bullhorns again and give yourself time to get used to it.

If you're deadset on super wide go with a mtb bar and bar-ends. It isn't the same but it works nicely. I do like stubby bar ends on my SS Mtb

Yeah barends would solve it, functionally. But it looks odd in my vintage machine. I'd much prefer the real bullhorns.

My serious issues with narrow bars are the feeling of a twitchy steering that I don't have leverage over. I feel very insecure on a bike with narrow bars, for instance any roadbike with drops. Hence I've always ridden with flat bars on my bikes.

But maybe I should give it a try and ride it daily.

I always feel the same way after I spend a lot of time on my mountain bike. Then I readjust to the road bikes.

I'm a tall guy some I always look out for wide bars. There are the widest drops available
46m Grand Cru Course Handlebar- Classic Round Bend - Handlebars - Components
48cm Nitto Noodle Handlebar

This the Albastache, I have had my eye one it for some time. 55cm

You guys might have convinced me I'm looking for something I don't really want, hence it's not on the market.. haha.

So, should I get something that fits my 25.4mm stem and accordingly the levers, or should I get 26mm bars and new levers? I'd say price is not an issue, but I'd be lying, but also I don't want a half-assed (can I say that??) solution, so whatever it takes.

I know what you mean. Very little bar movement = significant affect on steering. Wide bars slow that down. I don't like my hands in a position narrower than my shoulders, feels unnatural. Exactly like you, it feels twitchy.

I used to always ride with wide flat bars, or bmx bars. So I too found my first pair of bullhorns quite twitchy. Almost to the point of being scary at first. But after a few long rides I adjusted to them so much they're now my favorite bars. Ride them for a while, embrace the responsiveness for a month or so, then make a decision. Save your loot until then in case you need a new stem/lever etc.

Soma fabrications makes 48cm bullhorns with 25.4 clamp diameter. Might work for you, but might be really flexy also, as Scrod stated.

edit: The brake clamp diameter is 23.8 though, not 22.2

Don't want flexy, so it sounds like I'm looking for 26mm or what the standard is, and then a new stem and lever.

I'm sure I'll adjust, as "everyone else" is rider below 50 cm bars, be it drops or bulls or some other variant. I'm just not accustomed to it. I found that VeloSolo in UK carries it all at favorable prices, so once I have some spare dough I might jump into it.

Thanks for the pep-talks
