Saturday...MTB ride to the top of Brown Mtn. Rd., and descent via EL Prieto Canyon. It's been a long time since I've ridden El P, and it was really enjoyable, but - as always - very technically demanding. My confidence for handling rocky steep stuff is coming back slowly, and this was the first time I rode a couple of sections that I have walked in recent times. I wasn't trying to go fast, but just stay focused, and enjoy the ride. It was a lovely afternoon (14mi / 2300').
Sunday...Coffee Ride. Very easy pace from South Pasadena to Duarte. Spice level turned up at Encanto Park. Put in a deep effort on the Winston climb, took a few pulls through Monrovia and Arcadia, and hit hard again on the climb into Sierra Madre, shedding all but 1 other rider. I felt okay, but the efforts from the day before took some juice out of my legs. (37 mi, 1400')

40-miler in the la habra heights and whittier heights areas. late start so got a little toasty and me with (not the best conscious decision) no water bottles.
low traffic. only came across 3 gardening trucks in the "heights" parts of the ride. survived the busier parts like mar vista, colima, gale and the mile long drop on hacienda from the light/w. skyline down to the park/encanada. mixed pavé. some freshly paved parts, some def in need but most just dandy. quite a bit of soil deposits here and there from the recent storms but wasn't going fast enough to really mark it as a major concern. if you're a speed racer tho, take note. really enjoyed the ride and it was pretty challenging given the current (lack of) fitness level. did mix in a few choice efforts like ardsheal and valle/arioso. turnbull canyon rd some road repair on the southern end/base. need to make it back to the area in the next few months. fantastic views to the san gabes and san berdoos. peevee/dtown/catalina views were a bit hazy.

came across a guy in a white/blue/red jersey with a white helmet on a dark-colored bike that had (southbound) likely descended hacienda and turned left (heading east) on east st. maybe CAT7RDR?!?! i waved. he waved. only saw 3-4 cyclists entire ride but did see two coyotes on (old) fullerton rd. by the puente hills trailheads around 3pm.

A quick 17 miles at Griffith Park today. Beautiful weather and worked up a good sweat. I definitely drank more water as well. Also on this frame, I recently swapped my chainring to a 52-36t while keeping my 11-32t cassette. I felt a tad faster, but I'm still getting used to the slight gearing adjustment.

Great time of the year to be riding the Puente Hills before the heat ramps up in July.

Riding the next few days to and from work before the rain starts Friday night. I had planned on going to East Fork towards Burro Canyon shooting range but the predicted rain might cancel it.
Got to strut the new to me polka dot Bianchi jersey today.

For Thursday I did 20 miles and 2000 feet of climbing. At Griffith like usual! Weather was too nice not to ride and I ran into a friend as well!

Headed out at first light on a meandering loop up into Brea hills- SAG at Wildcatter's Park then wandered down thru Orange, El Modena & Tustin past the blimp hangar(s) then back up the SART to home. Don't think the temp rose more than 5-6 degrees so hardly any de-layering required. Ended up doing just over 65 miles. Nice cross/block tailwind from the building SE winds made the return nice.
Big psychological victory in beating the rain by a good 6-hour margin!

Rode from Tustin station to San Clemente station with Our Gang MS Ride and rode Metrolink back to avoid the rain.
Did not think it was possible to have winter in mid-April in SoCal.

For Monday, I did 20 miles and 2000 feet of climbing at Griffith Park. Weather was great, especially the day after it rains! Air was fresh and there was a nice breeze. I even talked to another cyclist who said he skipped work just to go ride! Lol

After work gravel bike ride to Henninger Flats, including a loop of the upper campgrounds. Enjoyed the warm - but not too hot - afternoon, and nice views of the sprawling LA metropolis (12mi, 1900').

For Thursday, knocked out my regular 20 miles and 2000 feet of climbing over at Griffith Park. Also it seems the fire road are attracting more rattlesnakes. I see quite a few birds and squirrels hanging out, so for the snakes it must be a great place to catch a meal!

Another 20 miles and 2000 feet of climbing for Tuesday. There was some really fast guys riding today. I got dropped big time by this older cyclist who was just flying up the hill. His pace seemed like he was going 12-15mph and I was getting pro (or ex-pro) vibes from just observing his technique. I tried keeping up by increasing my cadence, but I was already hitting my limit. It was a good learning experience to see how truly fast hill climbers ride. Anyways, I actually got amp'ed up being dropped like that. I definitely want to climb more hills now and improve!

I've been slacking off with this Seattle like weather. Needed some motivation so got some new wheels. Wrapped in 30c GP5S TR. Vast change up from old school tube only Zipp 303 with 19mm in side width.
First ride on them was niiiiice, fast n plash. 63psi from and 67 rear per Silca psi calculator........ they just gluide....no trouble in cross or head winds when bombing hills.
