I built up my GS for my wife , long stays and upright handlebars go well together for a balanced ride. When she saw it she says, " I don't need another bike, my 29er is fine, one ride down the street and " Your right, I'll take it". She loves the bike , I love the spot it cleared for my International.

Not a fan of the pretty girl next door?

My son's Gran Sport w/ modern Veloce

I had a Gran Sport when I was his age, but I destroyed it in a crash. Something I still regret, over 30 years later.

Thats really hot! Do I spy a Sheldon Brown drop mount for the rear brake?

GordoTrek, the name changed over the years while the bike also changed a bit. Each year, it had only one color scheme available. First came the white with lagoon blue trim. Later, they reversed it. The earlier one had Zeus forged dropouts with integrated derailleur hanger. The later one had stamped dropouts and a bolt-on hanger.

Yes, drop brackets for front and rear. Made from aluminum bar stock.

We only have one brifter bike, and it's not even mine :-(

I think 1974/75 for the frameset. Same year as my long-dead Gran Sport.

Components are almost all Campagnolo Veloce 10 speed, guessing mid 2000s? Rims are Mavic Open Pros, not sure of age. Seat post, stem, bar, headset are the only original components. Saddle is a ratty Brooks Pro.

I think you misunderstand. jyl equipped the bike with that stuff, long after the frame was built.

Rght, the only original parts hanging on the frame are the seat post, stem, bars, headset and if you want to be picky, the seat post pinch bolt/nut.

Raleigh Gran Sport... should I?

I'd be interested in the Simplex derailleur if you are replacing it. PM me if interested.

Raleigh continually economized on the length of the name over time. From Grand Sports to Grand Sport to Gran Sport. Some earlier ones were full '531.

My 1975 Gran Sport was full 531. I think 1976 was the last year for the model, and it was identical to the 1975 model.

I thought the progression went from 531 main tubes and fork in the early '70's to full 531 beginning around 1974. Are you referring to older (60's) models?

After you adjust for inflation, $225 in 1973 dollars is worth $1205.57 in today's dollars. BUY IT!

Really? Mine has only 8 (if you count the head tube), plus the fork. Where do the other 523 go?
