What's up fools, I'm back! Just accepted a job in Boulder, and moving out in a month. Can't live in Boulder and not ride the bike, so I'm gonna dust off the sucker and get back at it. Have only ridden about 40 hours total the last two years. But excited!

Seems like I'm going to be moving to Utah for work after I graduate in June. Will be working in South Ogden / Hill AFB. Does anyone here have any advice on where to live? What's riding like there?

It looks like a dream place to live in the summers with great mountains to ride. The winters look pretty miserable though, I'm not used to snow growing up in the PNW. So that's going to take some getting used to. I'll have to take up cross country skiing or something to stay fit outside during the winters. Maybe I'll finally buy a Mountain bike...

I know what you mean. The only difference is I don't have much to do at work (this place is a disaster). Well, that, and you get to ride. I'm up at 6:30, off to work, get there about 9 (90+ minute commute), home about 7 (5:15 sounds like a dream), take the baby until about 8:30-9 when she goes down. Unwind for a couple hours, in bed about 11:30.

Oh, and wake up 3 or 4 times at night with the baby. You get used to 6 hours of sleep every night, mostly.

Apparently I did well enough. I have the third and final round Tuesday. Two technical presentations totaling 35 minutes. Including lunch and going over benefits with HR I'm there for about 4 hours.

The presentations are stressing me out a bit, that's a lot of presenting for an interview. I prefer presenting to people when I know as much or more than them and I'm not trying to get a job I really want and impress them. Luckily my work is so slow that I have plenty of time to work on the presentations, because I sure don't have time at home.

So you only have to work about 6.5 hours a day?

Did you have burn-out or just lose interest in the bike?

Took a little time off and went riding with some old friends. Got a free lunch out of the deal and got to see another friend who is currently side-lined after getting doored 6 months ago.
He had to get a shoulder replacement and, at 75, is thinking about not riding road anymore.
This guy was a great rec rider and Master's road racer so it's in his blood. His wife is not so happy about him attempting a come back, however.
One of the other regulars has bought an e-bike. If you like motor-pacing, a big guy on an e-bike is the ticket, especially if he knows what he is doing. This guy has decades of group riding experience but some weird heart condition has put him on the electric motor.

Been trying to talk my partner in to pacing me with an e-bike.. she's not interested though.

I guess just drafting @Ygduf during TT practice will have to do.

Welcome to the bubble! I'm just outside, in Gunbarrel. If you need a brain to pick for local info, shoot me a note.

Drafting on a TT bike? I hope you take the occasional pull.

Despite being a non-practicing Catholic, I still try to follow the some of the rules of Lent. So this year, I decided to give up sweets.

And while it's only three days in, I am struggling mightily with this one. There is so much candy in the office, and someone has donuts today. I really love to eat that crap.

A disgrace to your Jesuit education lol At least I have the excuse that I went to a largely Jewish school (but I actually practiced while I there, we had a Catholic chaplain on campus, my non-practicing happened after college).

I'm in the same boat, I haven't been actively practicing but I still try to do the fasting and no meat on Fridays and what not. I did fail ash wednesday since I had chicken (it was my wife's bday). I haven't quite committed to giving anything up, as evidenced by the chocolate pretzels sitting on my desk at the moment

I'm also Catholic, but I haven't practiced in many years. The only reason I know it's Lent is because I heard about Mardi Gras, lol.

To be fair, my choice of college was based more on distance from home than anything else. Also, I didn't get in anywhere else. The fact that is was Jesuit was just happenstance, though my parents were very happy to finally be sending me to a Catholic school, something they always wanted to do, but could not really afford.

And giving something up for Lent is about the only Catholic tradition I still hold. I'm not even a CEO (Christmas and Easter Only) Catholic. And I'm doing it less for Lent reasons than just for personal growth. (Note, I still eat meat on Fridays.)

Also, cutting sweets is surely going to help me reduce weight and become faster on the bike, right?

I think giving something up is good, just to be mindful in general, even if for non-religious reasons.

I'm not even a CEO either. I'm honestly not sure the last time I was in a Catholic church.

Easter, Christmas, and once every few months ago to make my mother happy when I'm visiting home . She's often involved with the music and (handbell) choir.

I grew up a Catholic but now attend a Lutheran church (ELCA). I thought I would be the only one. Turns out the place is lousy with Catholics. I suggested to our pastor that they should have sent Ratzinger a nice retirement present; he was the best recruiter they ever had. [/p&r]

Damn, that's awful. Hopefully not permanent at least. You should probably talk to a lawyer.
