this is exactely the rack we have on three bikes (the ones converted to hub brake). I also did the coldsetting . It is a great rack but I have decided I want a platform on top on our next two bikes (like the new Dahon rack you linked to). Also you are in for a bit of wrenching when you want to take the front wheel off..
Keep us updated on how you like it! I envy you who can go shopping for such treats in person. With me it is web shopping only.

It's nicer than the old version for sure.

It's available from 3M, I have plenty on my bikes and on the first set of panniers too. Unfortunately it's also quite expensive.

More on frontracks: I just bought the Ostand Front Alloy Carrier Rack - Adjustable
Found it in this shop i bought stuff from several times: https://www.practicalcycles.com/userimages/procart27.htm Scrolldown, to the right rack. Actually there is a headtube mounted one there also that I think could be great for a small wheeled cargo bike if folded size is not important.
I`ll post some pix today, comparing it with two other racks. I bought mine for a folder that has a 100mm front hub, so the Dahon/Tern racks would be forced to open up (coldsetting alu is not something I like to do) plus last time I had the Dahon rack on this bike the fold was quite a lot bigger than without it.

So her is the rack i used for some time. Not happy with it. Makes the fold less than ideal plus no "struts" to keep the bags out of the front wheel:
Rack I have used for some time.
This is the new rack upside down on the old one to compare:
New and old rack compared.
This is the new rack next to the Dahon rack curently on my sons folder:
Dahon or Tern rack.
This is one reason why I do not like the Dahon rack so much, wider fold:
Dahon rack is widening the fold.
I may have to get rid of the spring to nicely fit panniers but that is 5 min with a Dreml.
The legs on the new rack is not quite long enough for atatching at the eyelet with the fenderstays. After I did some thinking I decided to use P-clamps low on the fork legs for a start.
First I wanted to remowe the lower part of the legs. They are 10mm solid alu rod. Wanted to make new longer ones from steel tubes, hammered flat and drilled at the bottom. Then I realised there is no good way to atatch them without some serious bending.
Been thinking of buying a new steel fork for this bike, that way I could add a threaded rivet for atatching the struts. Wanted a new bike but have decided this bike fits me so well that I think I`ll keep it.

Resurrecting an old thread...
How does it affect the fold? And why didn't you mount it so it was level, rather than tipped backward?

2 years later.. you ask
Perhaps because , what it looks like , only matters to you .. & CofG of the load may be better if closer to the steering axis.
and If you own a DaHon , Use your imagination, make a cardboard Mock up if needed,
to just think about what space the rack on top of the wheel would be occupying when the frame was folded in half and the front wheel is facing backwards

I always try to angle my rack the same way,...to keep what I'm carrying TOWARDS my bike frame.

If you click on badmother's name, you'll get a menu bar where you can see all the user's forum posts. Badmother hasn't posted since Sept '13,so doubt you'll get an answer from them.

Thanks for the helpful reply.
I noticed that, but chanced a reply. Even sent one through the user's Flickr account, too.
That said, I suppose I'll be more careful about adding replies to old discussions.

There is no problem with using the search utility and reviving an old thread, IMO.

No,but he was asking the OP a question and the OP hasn't been around for a couple years. Just pointing out how to check if a user is still currently on the forums.

So, I bought a cheap calliper-mounted rack similar to the one posted earlier.
It's a bit wider than I was expecting for the front, but it doesn't seem be in the way when the bike is folded. The cables don't appear to be too affected by the presence of the rack, folded or unfolded. If anything the fold is a bit quicker since the cables are held more towards the center of the fold and no longer interfere with the magnetic clip (I usually had to pull them away, out from between the clip).
The calliper mounts on the rack were as wide apart as the top of the rack, but some moderate persuasion and they were bent inwards enough to mount without any outward tension on the calliper bosses on the fork.
The connecting bracket that attaches to the fender bolt was not a direct fit. It was shaped to fit under the brake cable and the rise up to the underside of the rack. I opted to flatten in out and let it rise up and over the brake cable instead. It seemed like an easier, and cleaner fit.
Seems like a decent rack for under CAD$20, including shipping. I'm sure time will tell, though.

crazylegsmurphy's quest for luggage options for the Tern led me to the Tern Spartan front rack.
A front lowrider seems like it might be an easy way to up the carrying capacity on a folder and I'd like to try one. The Spartan however looks like it won't work with v-brakes
Is anyone aware of other alternatives? Availability in Europe/UK would be a big plus.

I have converted our Dahons to use a luggage system based on a Brompton block that we used on our Bromptons as well, so the front rack is surplus to requirements.
