Awesome...maybe not "standard" but quite sensible. Includes option to use thinner lighter tires for road tours & even studded tires for winter! I'm not sure why alu frame not std on production tourers. I'd rather save ~1 kg of weight over steel even if it meant less shock-absorbing frame. EZ to adjust tire pressure for rougher surfaces if necessary. 920 disc brakes for confidence even with rain.

I saw that at a Trek superstore... for mountain trail touring. Very interesting bike.

That would be the new "720" Disc with 100 psi tires.

Being a 29er , You can always use a less wide 700c tire. [Higher pressure, lower rolling resistance]
Use the extra space for Mudguards .

I'd like to try one, to compare it with my Fargo. I think it looks like a good bike.

Bigger tires+more air=extra comfy ride.

I'm gonna miss my 29er when my TREK 820 is done. And I'm using some NOS Bontrager 1.6 tires. I'll eventually upgrade (or downgrade, depending who you ask) to bigger tires.

And since I have a thin build (aka light), I can run the tires lower on/off road.

I ride a lot of country roads with a lot of "imperfections " and this is so much more comfortable than my cannondale road bike. All the jarring when hitting bumps was not fun. These tires definitely absorb that and make the ride better. Very fun bike for me. I have a state park 14 miles away with mtn bike trails. I am gonna ride to that and test it on diff terrain and do a full report!

Many times you can ask the dealer to order the bike with steerer tube uncut if it concerns you. Often not a bad idea.

Not with Trek I've been down that road.

Order a second replacement fork, perhaps the dealer will offer a trade in ..

I bought a BBB BHP 21 https://www.wiggle.com/bbb-bhp-2021-stem-extender/

to extend a threadless steerer back to my needed Height.

I'm not surprised, though many years ago we were able to order the fork uncut on a Trek road bike. It was one of the last aluminum frames that Trek made here in the US. If there being assembled overseas, which I'm sure they are, I can see that not being an easy option any more.

I had a Cannondale alu T400 that became punishing after hours of riding on terrible DC streets, I even got black 'n blue toes sometimes. Wider tires much comfier & I think for avg moderate touring speed not too much of a penalty. In future perhaps we'll see some touring bikes w/a bit of elastomer suspension so thinner tires can be used.

Love the look of this bike. The tires seem to be leaning more to the off-road side vs. road use. How do the feel on the road for you? I was considering a 8.6 DS for a 70/30 on-road/off-road type of ride. I think I'd rather like the drop bars and the geometry of this bike instead. Does it feel like a tank up hills?
