Being on a 'moderate' bike budget, I chose to stick with early/mid 80s European roadies, for vintage.

JD, that is a really nice looking World Sport there, an almost pristine appearance. Nothing wrong with Schwinns at all, yours is a super example.

If C&V ever did a calendar, the bikes and I would be good for the month of Juvembery - not quite right and mightily confused.

Bill -- you should do the calendar for next year. Tons of bikes to choose from and photos of those classic veteran riders like @nlerner & @noglider and others (whose vintage looking images are classic).

@Wildwood I appreciate the thoughts, I never bothered with learning Photoshop, or any of the digital imaging software out there. I wish dearly that I could, but choosing just 12 bikes from the fantastic place would be damn near impossible. Kind of like trying to decide which one here to declare as the best member's bicycle, an invitation to be stammering and stuttering.

I might as well give this some thought however, the more I think about it, the more I would like to have such a calendar hanging in my office and shop. Hmmmmm. Anyone else have any thoughts about a C&V calendar?

Noooo, not even going to look for donations. Thanks for offering up the money, if I undertake this it will be something I do. Only when it was ready to go would I ask for perhaps mailing, this forum has given me way too much to ask for anything at all. i am going to talk with the boss, errr, wife about the software already on my computer, she knows something about using it from church groups she is in.


I am going to chat with our son, he did some work for his undergraduate degree, and his church, with desk top publishing and editing as well as photos. I'll keep you informed as to how it looks, and if it comes to fruition, I would have the folks here select about 20 bikes to take in the owners photos, with their permission of course, and see what I can assemble for 2018. Thanks for the impetus and encouragement WW.

I'll share my newly acquired Greg Lemond Maillot Jaune. Going by the decal that shows the 1986 and 1989 Tour de France victories I'll judge it to be a 1989-1990 model. This one is built up with Campagnolo, Chorus I think. This is a TSX tubed bike and the paint is remarkable good for the age.



And it's "sibling" in my stable, a Ventoux from the same era.



This one is Cromor tubed with a Shimano build. Sort of a hodge podge of parts. As setup in the pics this has become a favorite for centuries because it's so comfortable.

Hey Bill, probably overpriced but there are a lot of businesses offering calendar printing online. You can simply upload the pictures. Prices could be high. But the real challenge would be getting high-resolution pro photos of the bikes. We've had family photos printed in hardcover books, anything less than HUGE resolution images will come out blurry

Thanks, our family has both used the ones you linked, and made their own. I am just a software/app Ludite, if it isn't related to engineering (Autocad, etc) or QCM, I just don't use it. Now that I am nearing retirement its something to look at possibly doing. My M-I-L is fairly skilled with the calendar thing, I can pick her brain this week. I suspect that the toughest part would be choosing just 12 members' bikes for a calendar . Perhaps a two year set up would...........

After & before. Was all original when I got her except for tires, tape, & cages. Still making changes.

Just picked this lovely up yesterday for $100. She was in rough shape and looks life she hasn't been bathed in at least 10 years, but I took about an hour and scrubbed off about a quarter inch of grime from all the components and was happy to see that she isn't a rust bucket. Most of the decals are worn off, but the head badge is in OK shape and so is the chrome plating. I've found most of the components I need to bring her back into original spec too. Currently she is sitting with my LBS getting a full tear down and tune up. I can't wait to get her back and get riding! Best part though, is is small enough for my stubby legs to ride! (I'm 5'2"and a smidge, lol)

You just stole a great bicycle there, Internationals are a very nice riding bike, and the components you got are top drawer too. Hopefully all the threading and such isn't rusted up, man you are one fortunate person, congrats.

The brake levers look different, not the originals I remember on my '74. What are those?

Yeah, sadly the brakes/levers are not the originals, after some digging on eBay I found some weimanns that look to be the correct ones. I think these are just horrid cheap things that someone slapped on. Honestly they were terrifying to use, lol. Most threads look like they're actually in good shape. Previous owners "coat everything in globs of grease" approach appears to have worked. I should be getting it back from my LBS in about a week and I'll give y'all an update.

I've finally completed my French touring bike build, and today I couldn't wait any longer - I took it out on salty streets for a 14 mile shakedown ride around my neighborhood loop.

Here she is:



A Gitane Gypsy Sport that I built up last year into sort of a "path racer", but I found the riding position too aggressive for my bad back. Several iterations later, and I finally think this bike has found its proper form. Here's another angle:



The full fenders, racks and bags fit perfectly, and the Nexus 8-speed IGH has the perfect gearing for the kind of riding I do locally. And it is soooo comfy!

This one's a keeper.
