Randy, I can probably help you out with a pair of these. They are on a small bike I built for when my nephew would visit. He's grown now and I have no need and should pass them along. What's your time frame? Like you I'm at my summer cottage and don't make it to the bike shop all that often. These would be heading to Jamaica when you return in the fall?

It is not the barend shifters, but I have the X-press trigger shifters from a SunTour XCD mountain group in 7 speed. Here is a document showing what they look like. Note it is the under the bar trigger type in the lower right of the photo, not the "thumbies" type above them:

For some time, now, I have thought of converting an old mountain bike to a drop bar cottage bike. At the moment, my only vintage ride is an old Legnano but I don't ride it in inclement weather. So, I need an all weather bike for those, all to common, rainy days in and around Thunder Bay. That bike will be based on a Rocky Mountain Cardiac that I got a week, or so, before I sold my collection.

I suggested the bar end shifters because I really like the way they work. I have considered trigger shifters, also, but think that I will wait for a set of Barcons. I plan to install a set of road bars on that old mountain bike. I hope to get the drop bars installed soon but there is no rush, since I am riding the bike with the flat bars that were original issue. I did install a longer steering stem, though, making for a better fit and feel...

Looks like an early 1990s Shimano STX setup.

Assuming the freehub body is the narrow type, you could also set up an eight of nine cluster at the back hub and run Shimano SL-BS64 thumbshifters.

The barcons are excellent, though - I sold off a pair of them about four years ago and have regretted it ever since.

anyone know the best adaptor to use to convert a suntour barcon set up to a downtube set up on a roadbike? Is it even worth it to keep the shifters or should I just buy new ones?

Buy the down tube shifter or, better yet, offer your barcons in trade for the shifter set that you want.

I think I have a set of 7s speed suntour indexed downtube shifters. You can run them in friction mode, too. If you're interested, send me a pm. I'm not using them.
