1991 Concorde Aquila. Felt the need for a C&V steel that I could comfortably ride in a group rather than my 1971 Raleigh Competition which is my sunny Sunday ride (most Sundays in West Australia). Frame by Chiocc, Campagnolo gears, brakes etc. Self built wheels with Campagnolo hubs, H+Son Archetype rims, DT Swiss Comp spokes. Since this picture it now has Selle San Marco Rolls saddle. Built from scratch.

I had a bike already built in full Mavic (which is what this bike would have been equipped), and because those parts are getting harder and harder to find in nice condition and are also expensive, I went another direction and built it with mostly Campagnolo C-Record, with a bit of Record 8-speed Ergo thrown in. I was sure to include some parts to give the bike a Criquielion flavor, namely a Cinelli cockpit, including Criterium bars, a Selle San Marco Rolls saddle and pair of first generation Look pedals.

That is a beauty, and ties in well with mine;

Criq rode for Lotto-MBK in his last couple of seasons. I had this team-colours frame sitting in my garage for a couple of years and just never built it up. This summer I finally pulled all the parts off a different bike and threw them on this. Should've done it years ago. Now that I've ridden it, I have bigger plans for it than the 8-speed Mirage group shown here; a pair of silver Ksyriums that I recently picked up, and some Athena 11-speed equipment will be the next step.

My other project for the year wasn't really C&V, but the Family subforum doesn't usually go in for this so here goes.

I picked up these 2 bikes locally for free on FB Marketplace. They'd been sitting in a garden, in the sun, getting rusty.

I stripped down the Magna (on the right), got some cans of Spray.bike;

And built up with some spares from the parts bin and a few extras off of Amazon;

My son is 4, and I may have underestimated how long it would take him to outgrow his 12" Spesh Hotrock, but he's really looking forward to being big enough to take this out. But not as much as I'm looking forward to it.

I wouldn't call it amazing, but it probably would be my '83 Bottecchia and my 2012 Cervelo. Both free, the Bottecchia I just paid for shipping it over from NY:

@2cam16 IMO free is totally amazing, and if you claimed free shipping then would be amazingly unbelievable as well.

Starting a collection

Decided to start buying some bikes this year. It's been fun, and I'm starting on the next phase of prioritizing, selling, seeking specific bikes.

Found in 2019 (also Trek 170, Gangl Record Strada, LeMond TVT - but no good photos of those):

Masi 3V

Masi GC w/ Campy 50th

Raleigh SBDU 753

Tommasini

Shula Toei

De Rosa Primato

Love it. One day I'll have one. There's something about those late 80s Merckx paint schemes.

In the early part of 2019 I picked up a foil badge Gitane TdF with Campy fork ends, a Puch A-D Olympian garage queen and a Motobecane Grand Record towards the end of the year. As far as amazing finds I would have to say this Wester Ross takes the cake.

Looking back on 2019 this find comes to mind.

This Altra-badged Méral. These Mérals can be found in France, even at reasonable prices, but are very rare in my area. I have known of them for a while, and had been keeping an eye out. The patented Francis Quillon frame design is as interesting as it is recognizable, so when this appeared in the local classifieds in mrs non-fixie's size I immediately snapped it up.

Whether Altra (quite possibly the most uninspired bicycle brand ever) actually marketed these or it was just a joke of a previous owner I don't know, so I decided to re-paint (the hearing aid beige, while an original Méral color, didn't go down well at all with the mrs) and re-decal it to Méral with the help of a local auto paint supplier and a British decal manufacturer:

The result was a bike that its new owner liked very much and decided to bring along to L'Eroica:

Amazing enough for me.

While the stable increased from one sad bike to two sad bikes and two good bikes, none of those were technically my “find of the year”.

My find of the year was joining the forum.

*cue cheesy music*

Thanks folks, for answering all my dumb questions and not making me feel dumb about asking them.

This is awesome to hear! This sub is like 98% populated by good and even great human beings. The other 2% aren't even worth complaining about

Well, at least now, the two sad bikes can keep each other company, and maybe they won’t be so sad. 🤔😁😉

The Shogun is going to a friend in the spring. So I'll either need another sad bike to keep the Fuji company or I need to upgrade the Fuji. I'm opting for another bike. Because that's the answer to everything.

(If my husband can collect 75 pounds of keycaps, I can have five bikes....)
