Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We went away for a nice little break ... no cycling, but did manage a 3.5 km walk ...

Went for my usual 55-60 mile jaunt in Westchester. On the way back, hooked up with a couple in their 60s who asked me to join them on the return leg. They took me through some previously unknown (to me) roads on the back of the Rockefeller State Park Preserve with some nice climbs and even nicer views. They pulled like crazy on the ride and it was fun to be with them. Thanks for the pull, Phillip if you are on this forum.

Still new to the sport and increasing ride length weekly when possible. Got a nice 28 mile ride in just under 2 hours. Enjoyed a nice river trail for over half of it. My longest ride to date. Can’t wait to get my Dad’s ‘84 Prestige back on the road to try things on a road bike.

I just did my usual Saturday morning ride with a little extra added on just for fun. Fall is definitely in the air. Nice and cool for climbing.

I only managed to ride one day, today (Monday). A 25-mile loop on the rail-trails.

Nice weather. Much less humidity. Elevation changes were minimal; just the usual up-and-downs over various highway bridges. Pretty flat here!

No riding for me. It was 109 at my house yesterday so I took my Medici apart to install the newly acquired pantograph stem. Just tried it out up and down the street, that’s about it until it cools down.

I rode 45 Saturday and tested the limits of tubeless sealing capabilities with 2 punctures on my rear tire. The first puncture (20 miles into the ride) took a minute to seal but I still had decent pressure in the tire so we continued without adding any air. The second puncture happened 1/2 mile from my house. I wasn't on the rim and tried to baby the bike for a bit, but got concerned about damaging the tire from riding it so low. I paid good money for them GP5K and decided to walk the rest of the way home. I put air back in when I got home and took it out yesterday for another 30 miles without incident....thankfully

just moved to the Hamilton area so i don't know any routes. i used my Garmin route planner for a quick 40km road ride but it pushed me onto unpaved trails for over 2km of it. I wasn't too happy about that but i did some nice climbs and descents and saw a waterfall. Good ride overall, i just need to learn the area.

23 miles Friday, 32 miles Sunday, mostly easy pace, enjoying the "cool" temperatures now that it's dipped below 100F. Making some tweaks to my 1980s steel road bike for comfort, since I'm putting together a carbon fiber frame for faster rides (assuming I'm capable of doing anything with a lighter bike -- we'll see). I've switched to more supple tires and latex tubes. Really helps on our worsening rural roads. The economic downturn seems to be forcing quick 'n' dirty road repairs, so even suburban roads are now being repaved with rough chipseal. I'm not sure what the point is because some of the roads being chipsealed didn't need repairs at all.

My wife has done way more running than biking the past few years, but I got her out for a 28 mile RT ride on the Western Maryland Rail Trail from Hancock MD.

Short write-up and a few pictures here.
