1984 Raleigh Team Panasonic - What should I do with this thing?
I picked up this 1984 Team Panasonic Replica off of ebay eight months ago... Apparently it belonged to "someone" in Beverly Hills, and had been kept in an indoor closet (as the story goes), and was obtained in their Estate Sale. It seemed like the replica was mostly available as a frameset in '84... It still has what appears to be its original full Campy Nuovo Record Groupo, less the front wheel, which was swapped to a Mavic "Monthlery Route" hoop and a rather undignified Shimano hub along with it. This thing has a very cool "barnfind" feel to it, I am not sure if this should be disturbed. The missing sew-up on the front is a bit of an attention getter . Thoughts?

Ride it if it's your size, sell it to someone who will if it's not. I'll be doing the former with my '82 Team as soon as it warms up a bit.

Trade it for a 70's frame. (yeah, I'm that weird guy).
Looks in great shape. Hope it fits you well.

Hi there, I've just joined the forum for the sole purpose of looking for threads on Raleigh Panasonic Team Replicas! I saw this...and my goodness, what an amazing find! I'm hoping to find the frame and components of one myself and restore it. And I was just wondering...what ever came of this? How much did you pay for it – if you don't mind me asking – and of course, I kinda have to ask...would you part with it! LOL Thanks ever so much.

531C frames are pretty nice riding, at least for my skinny body!
Definitely ride it, after installing tires, brake lever hoods, and probably overhauling all of the bearings. Maybe replace the brake shoes too....

They can be found for cheap. I picked up my daughter's SBDU for not too much. It didn't have any decals or headbadge, just a nice white bike. As I was putting it in my car I saw the SBxxxx serial number and knew I scored.

Wow. I've started tracking down and buying the components that were on the original Team Replica 12, like the Campagnolo calipers and brake levers and so on. I found a good site based in Austria, which has proved to be very helpful. I'm actually British, so I was pedaling to and from school when this model was launched, but it was too expensive for a 14-year-old to buy! (That said, it's still going to be pricey!) And I used to live in LA, before moving to NYC just a few years ago...so I wish I'd started all this back then! I think the frame is going to be the single hardest thing to track down...that's just going to require a lot of patience waiting for one to become available. If you could be persuaded perhaps to even enter negotiations, please feel free to email me directly at hello[at]scottsnowden[dot]net Thanks ever so much!
