I did my usual (this season) Saturday morning ride. I rode from 68°F at home, up South Fork to 50°F. I wanted to stash some of that in my water bottle to use in the 104°F temps this afternoon. After South Fork I went up over the Alpine Loop and back down AF Canyon to home. Another spectacular summer morning in the mountains!

Just a short 58km Sunday morning ride. Took a week off the bike since last week's 600k as recovery, based on my Training Peaks stats. Felt good and able to maintain relatively high intensity throughout the ride - Training Peaks stats came up as 0.94 IF, 165 TSS.

First ride back on the road bike after a few weeks with the road bike down for maintenance. I managed to break three rear wheels in one month.
70 miles Saturday. Planned to do a century but made the mistake of including some hill repeats during the first 40 miles. Went home to eat and massage my neck and legs, then went out again and realized after 20 miles the tank was empty, went home. Still my longest ride this year, although with a long break midway.
15 miles Sunday. Supposedly a "recovery ride." For me, recovery rides are nonsense. I either do them at home on the trainer while watching TV, or take a walk instead. In my area there isn't enough flat terrain without headwinds for an "easy" ride. So tired I had a recovery nap, which is what I should have done in the first place. But it was good to get out in the sun for an hour.
Next time I tackle a full century I'll try to remember to skip the hill repeats and sprints and just ride a more suitable steady pace.

72 miles and 3k climbing. Went to Pinnacles National Park but added a detour on the way there and another on the way back so added about 10 miles and some hills.

I took last weekend off to celebrate our 45th anniversary. Only did 15 miles Sunday after flatting ten miles in. Had to change the tube. Joe

I rode 20 miles on the Illinois Prairie Path and Great Western Trail (the two trails meet at a couple locations so it is easy to ride out on one, then come back on the other). Elevation changes were minimal; just the usual two or three locations where the path goes up and down to bridge over an expressway or the railroad tracks.

23 miles, 1900 feet elevation. One of my usual routes, I didn't get to ride at all last week, we were on vacation camping. Wind was BAD, 25 mph for most of the ride. Varied from direct headwind to crazy sidewind... almost blew me into a ditch a few times. Felt pretty good overall, trying to work up to doing 35-40 mile rides 1x a week. Still trying to work my way to my goal, riding from Gatlinburg to Clingmans Dome in the GSMNP. 24 miles one way, about 4800 feet elevation gain. Just gotta suck it up and do it. This is my first season back on a road bike in 12 years, I started in April (as weather was warm enough). I am almost 900 miles right now

I like speed
I built up an older Cannondale SuperSix Hi-Mod a few weeks back and finally got to take it out on it's maiden voyage. I got up at 6AM to beat the heat in the Inland Empire and did a 24 mile loop to compare against the daily rider. There was some tinkering along the way as I got a few things sorted out with the bike. Otherwise I felt great and averaged a MPH faster in average speed on the route vs. the Orbea. I was glad to start earlier in the morning as it was getting warm by the time I arrived home.

My weekend starts on Thursday afternoon. Did a group ride 27.5 miles with 1700 feet of ascent. Saturday did a local loop, four laps total 26 miles and 3018 feet of ascent. This is the first time I have ascended more than 3000 feet in one ride. Came close several times and have done it many times on Zwift. Sunday got rained out only 12 miles 1300 feet of ascent. For the weekend 65 road miles, 6000 feet of ascent.
My week beginning Monday ending Sunday: 93 total road miles, 9100 feet of ascent. Today as I write this I am to be blunt, sore. This time last year I could do a metric century and did one on the flats but I couldn't ride to the end of my street 0.6 miles 6+% grade. I feel that I have come a long way in this hobby. The sole reason why I use SPD pedals and shoes is I expected as a routine to walk up hills when I first started back riding.

I was back in the Ocala Nat. Forest this weekend. Saturday I rode to Wildcat Lake for 39 miles. Almost ran over a possum with her babies on her back when she popped out of the grass on the side of the road. Missed her nose by an inch. Sunday I did a shorter ride for 30 miles and then hit the springs to cool down. It is dang hot even in the early morning.
