I like brompton and mini velo bikes. My 20” has the front 46t for an adult size bc. I have room to go bigger. Maybe 49 50ish max. I just found a spider adapter for with 19mm bore. I’m going to do it.

I mostly ride beach cruiser or klunker style bike around town.
Friend of mine wants to be a roadie but just uses an old MTB to get around. I tried explaining that our neighborhood was not at all conducive to skinny tires at hi psi, but he’s not at all mechanically minded and I think he has to figure it out for himself.

My main cruiser is a 1965 schwinn, it was my dad's bike. Single speed coaster brake.
The biggest improvement you can make is wheels and tires. low mass wheels are easier to accelerate

my $250 phat cycles 29”
made in the us I think
The $50 2010 20” trek drift has dimes
the $60 Electra super deluxe has dimes.
if anything those electras are still available for cheap and they are aluminum.

An EF welded Schwinn has a weld that’s basically invisible, but it’s still a quality weld.
Maybe 7 years ago someone left behind a roll of E85 T-1 in .045 in our department. I’m just a naturally curious person so I put it in the machine to run it. Nobody at our company ever ran T-1 wire and I was having a rough time figuring it out. Called Lincoln and got put through to their engineers.
Basically I was running it way to cold. It’s designed to be turned up so much that it seems to rival .072 NR232 in deposition rate.
Anyways… it made beautiful and strong welds but they don’t look like a roll of dimes. They look like glass. Similar to 7024 turned up.

A machine doesn't need to make the cupping motion required for a human to keep everything even.
nothing wrong with the strength of a machine weld, they're just unsightly.

I don't have a beach cruiser. But I do have an Electra loft 1 that is a coaster brake. I'm just getting back to riding after foot issues and 2 surgeries. I enjoy the simplicity of it. I've rode it quite a bit before my feet issues and have had it out a couple of times since getting back to riding this year. Not a good picture. But some days simple is good

Still a nice bike. Well thought out. Tires big enough to take out some of the sting and not get so easily pinched.

When they came out a local park got several of them for rentals. I loved the nickel plated and black finish. Told myself I wouldn't like it too simple. So I decided to rent one to prove to myself it wasn't for me 🤣 That worked well , I rode it around the 8 mile loop in the park. I bought one that weekend

The roll of dimes looks god but it doesn’t have much to do with what makes a good weld. Penetration, heat affected zone, washing in the corners without undercut, temperature control, etc.

I bought a Sun cruiser yesterday (pics coming), with the Nexus 3-sp with coaster brake. I hadn't used a coaster brake in 50+ years, but it felt natural. It seems to have more nuance than the coaster brakes I used back in the 1950's and 60's. I seem to remember those old ones from the Schwinns and Raleighs being more like ON or OFF. This Nexus allows for some degrees of slowing..... I may be mis-remembering.
The air is pretty bad here in NYC, but I'm going out for a ride now....

I bought a Sun 3-speed yesterday. Today it was just adjusting stuff. Short test-ride but got caught in the rain. Longer ride tomorrow, weather permitting. Here it is in its 99% retail state. I'll be adding some ape-hangers, pedals, maybe a Brooks. More pics as I go....

after sifting through peoples ideas opinions and snobbery. I came to the conclusion that a beach cruiser has split tube where you have a single straight tube in the frame.
your frames design is stronger than the other. With your new seat it’s going to be real nice. Get some kenda Kwest tires and get your psi into the 60s. You’ll roll a lot better. Three piece cranks lol dont get me started I like building up bikes
and you got the three speed that’s like Vtec for you bike lol
I know the ratios you got in that three speed by heart already. From my first hand experience a 24 tooth on the three speed is a little too much but a 23 tooth is good try it. They are cheap too like $7

When it comes to cranks I have a formula that has worked well for my knees, slight range-of-motion issues. Have done it on uprights and recumbents. Short crank-length 155 or so, oval chainring(s) from Rotor in Spain, with a lower tooth count to make up for the shorter cranks. Knees are happy. My LBS said they didn’t think a three-piece crankset would work on the BB shell of this bike.
