Connecting bike chain to 1/8" stainless cable

Hi

Does anyone have a clever solution for this? I need a "chain" with a couple direction changes, and would rather do this with cable, then convert to bike chain. The cable thimbles seem too big to fit inside a master link.

Thanks!
John

I have an art bike project for which the power source is transmitted over three pulleys with 1/8" stainless steel wire rope until it lines up with the freewheel. At this point, I need to join the cable to a traditional bike chain. Wire rope is usually terminated in a thimble, a metal stirrup which keeps the wire from kinking. For this size wire, the thimble is about 3cm x 4 cm (1.2" x 1.6"), much larger than the 1/8" single-speed chain. I bought some master links for a wider pitch chain, but have yet to try them, they do not look like they will fit bike chain.

I was wondering if there was a clevis or something similar which makes the connection of a cable to a chain easier

Since I'm assuming the cable won't make contact with the sprocket, just pass the cable through the chain link and make a loop with a crimp sleeve.
