WCBC Icicle Metric century ride in March--Anyone else signing up?

White Clay Bicycle Club down in Delaware does an early season metric century (shorter distances optional) ride down in Newark, DE every year. I'm signing up for the first time this year. Anyone else planning to ride this?

I'll probably be there. Plan on bad weather! Last year pouring rain; 2011 bitter cold. You'll love it.

Do their Savage Century in the fall. Nice ride. The 60 whatever route isn't super hard like the longer distances.

Has anybody ridden this in the past? Any feedback, good or bad? As I've posted this, it's only a couple of hours before the $15 registration bumps up to $20 by March 16.

I did the Savage Century last fall. My legs still hurt.

Nice country though.

I totally owned myself on Saturday. Went way too hard in the beginning, not knowing how hilly the ride is (first time doing it), and completely bonked before the 33 mile mark, right on Kirk Rd. Had to call sag to carry me back. I'm so disappointed.

That being said, learned some really good lessons about my riding, and set new personal records for feet climbed and calories burnt in a single ride.

I didn't sign up for it (chickened out), otherwise it would have been my first time too for that event. Thanks for sharing your experience EddNog. Now that you've learned how those hills owned you, treat it like your most hated adversary for the time being. You should come back and challenge him to another fight, but before doing that, you should systematically prepare for it. Train smart, not long. I personally hate hills before simply because it keeps me honest to myself and puts me in my appropriate place at that particular moment.

If you want to test yourself again, maybe I could catch you in one of these upcoming rides here in PA:

BBC 2013 Taxing Metric (April 20)

SCU 2013 Quad County Metric (May 11)

French Creek Iron Tour (June 9)
