Moral Dilemma (Pic Heavy)

Dropped
If I offended easily I might be at RatedZeroHero's comment, but I've never seen a post from him before.
MiamiJim's estimates are way low. I wonder how many Huret Jubilee long cage RD's he's seen. A quick check of completed auctions tells a different story on almost all the bits.
As for all the 'keep it complete' folks, all I have to say is pony up if it's so dang special, and you want to preserve it.
I'd be nuts to sell it to someone else who would just strip and flip. I know how to disassemble a bike, take pictures and sell on eBay.
I don't need to sell, and don't *need* the money, any more than anyone *needs* money.
I can't ride it, my wife can't ride it, and my kids can't ride it. None of my friends can ride it.
It will be gone from the garage one way or another, sooner or later.
Selling at the low point in an economic downturn is not the best move, unless there is a buyer who appreciates the product.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
That is a very beautiful bike... could you have your legs altered ?
Selling it whole would please the bike gods and who knows, you might just find the right person who appreciates the bike for what it is and has been looking for just this bike for 30 years.
On another note...
If you ever break up with Mrs OFG have her call me... she sounds awesome.

Because I thought some of the regulars here may be interested in it. It will be sold, and I prefer to keep it intact.
I have a local buyer interested and he would keep it as a rider. If that doesn't pan out, a BIN on eBay is the next step. If it doesn't sell, it will be parted. If someone here wants it bypassing eBay, all the better.
Why the attitude?
Sorry, they are 27"
Not a chance.

I don't think it's inappropriate. OFG mentioned that he has a bike and a moral dilemma. People who may be interested know about it now, but no untoward buying and selling has been taking place here.
If he had just said "Mrs. OFG found this incredible Motobecane for me, but alas, it's too small for me," he'd have been hit with multiple PMs expressing interest. My guess is that happens almost every day here. No biggie, and this thread is in the same vein.

I was a bike mechanic in the early 70's when you could order any individual Huret derailleur part you wanted, and had converted a number of various Huret models to long cages to handle wider gearing.
Notice those pulleys?... they're Huret loose ball bearing wheels with adjustable races.
Jeez... too bad...
I just bought an old Raleigh with some odd parts on it about a month ago for $600 just to get the Reynolds DB frame, and would have paid you whatever you wanted for a a rare intact gem like that. I bet you'll find someone who'll snatch that up for top dollar. See if you can advertize it in the Los Angeles Craigs List. It's a hotbed of bike activity.

I remember this same issue came up with a Jubilee equipped Raleigh Competition owned by Bigwoo.
Your right, that RD can bring in as much as the frame with a good auction. That said, I would like to think that I would keep it intact if it were mine... but I can't promise I would.
I like the ebay suggestion, someone out there might pony up for the complete bike.

I wouldn't feel too bad about stripping and flipping- somebody is going to buy the part and put it on a bike that will appreciate it- I sure wouldn't bid on a long-cage Huret der for example if I didn't absolutely need one to make my restoration project right. So it goes from one bike to another. Zero sum game. Maybe the other bike is even better, gets ridden a lot and is really loved by its owner.
But I agree- list it once on Ebay with a BIN of what you think you can get for the parts minus 15% and if it doesn't sell, part it out.

Sounds like somebody spent a long time and a lot of money to build a real nice bike, now you want to rip all the parts off to sell to somebody else so they can build a real nice bike.
Sounds like you should just sell a real nice bike to someone who will appreciate the bike for what it is!

Hey, I'm just posting numbers I've read in this thread........and I've been updating my post as new info becomes available.
At the moment my parted out tallys at $620 excluding the crankset, brakes, BB and headset. In general I price f&F w/ headsets and BB's. The big question is can you get $620 for it as a complete bike? I'b throw in on Ebay with a 'Buy Now' fixed price format of $700. (you'll lose 10-13% in fees)

That is a beautiful bike. I like keeping them complete but on the flip side the next guy may part it out. Hard call.
Make some really nice wall art in the living room.
The parts will only increase in value so hang it and mull it over.
Now make us cry, was this a garage sale find under $50?
Didn't she find a couple other nice bikes? Ever thought about putting Mrs OFG to work finding these for a fee? LOL

umm....how much?
I'd hate to see that parted out, and it looks to be just about my size.
edit: PM me the price if you are willing to sell.

Well ain't my size. Thing is, those Hurets were unique to a very few bikes, and you almost always see them come up parted out or missing.
Honestly, turning a profit isn't my motivation for loving these bikes. Seeing them brought back to life and ridden is my joy.
Share the love I say: move it on complete to someone who wants it as is...

because that is the rule around here, no direct sales in threads, and
any response to for sale, wtb etc. are handled by private messages, keeps BF and IB out
of the loop.
