I think there was a misunderstanding, where "if you're OK with rim brakes," or something like that, was misinterpreted as meaning "rim brakes are inferior." The intended meaning seems to have been "if you're not fixated on disc brakes . . . " At least that's how I read it.

I dared to say that they were not all that bad and a dude went into a hissy fit because I was being off-point, irrelevant, gratuitous, and off-topic.

Personally, I don't like V brakes but that's exclusively on looks alone (not vintage enough). But they have better braking power than cantilever brakes, the longer arm can really lay down a lot of leverage.

Is this what triggered your hissy fit?

If so, that reads as an endorsement of rim brakes, not a rejection of them.

Maybe you were referring to something else.
