new bike corral installed today downtown.
KHS flite's are really nice bikes. I don't know why more people around here don't ride them instead of Surly, IRO, etc.

I ride a KHS Flite 100. I really love mine so far. Got it for less than $500, switched out the drops for a flat bar(Free), switched from the 48t chainring to a 42t ($32), switched from 23mm to 25mm wide tires with thick tubes(50), and put a 16t freewheel on the flip folp hub($10). Great commuter for Lubbock TX.(Priceless)

Priceless? Seems more like $590 to me.

I haven't looked, but is the difference in price accompanied by a difference in components on the complete build of the two?

False things like, perhaps, that in a situation where you need maximum leverage the last place your hands should be is right next to the stem? False things like that?

No, but the difference in price and the KHS logo magically transform them from "soft and cheap" into a "really nice bike".

Finally got it picture-worthy:

58cm Messenger, 48/18 fixed or 48/16 ss.

Modifications: 18t IRO track cog, Trans-X pursuit bars, Cane Creek 200TT brake lever, carbon seatpost, replaced saddle, new cork bar tape, and some SPD pedals.

It's my first fg/ss and I'm having a blast with it.

Indeed.

Stay dry there in Texas. I just visited family in Dallas and in Houston. Not a FG to be seen anywhere (unlike Socal). A few roadies, very few in fact. Texas needs more bikes. Are you in Austin? I've heard that there is a pretty good cycling community there.

In Dallas. Ike brought us nothing but a little much-needed rain followed by beautiful sunny low-80s weather. Not much of a cycling scene due to the heat, and the lack of bike-friendly streets, and the fact that you have to drive at least 20 miles to get anywhere (seems like). Thanks for asking!

^ I used to live by White Rock Lake, TONS of roadies. The last few times I've been back I've started to see some fixies out riding the lake.

did a 180 off a lip on a curb and it snapped. The other half went into the road. I didn't fall or anything, just sucks. 2nd set of Sugino RD's I've ruined.

Ruined?!

Stick it back together with some JB cold-weld and it'll be good as new.
