Anyone ride a '10 TCR Alliance?
I was talking to my LBS guy and he was talking about the Giant TCR Alliance and how it was a really nice bike for the money, good parts, ride....etc. So later when I got home I looked it up and saw that it has a Carbon/Alum frame which I thought was interesting, but what part is carbon? Or is it carbon over alum? Not sure how it works. I wanted to take one for a spin but he doesn't stock any Alliances at the moment, don't know if they sold out or what. If someone could enlighten me that would be great.

My guess (don't own the bike) is that a term like "Carbon/Alum frame" means aluminum frame with a CF fork and possibly stays.

Fork, seat stays, and a slight portion of top tube are carbon.
I bought an 2008 alliance and I love it, my first bike so nothing to compare it to.

The top half is carbon, so seat stays, seattube, top tube are carbon. the head tube, down tube and chainstays are aluminum.

click on link to see what exactly is carbon and aluminum on the frame/fork. https://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/...y/Alliance/29/ . The ride is a bit smoother than a a full aluminum bike. still feels stiffer than my full carbon bike.

I don't think anyone rides one. The last I heard (in February) was that the TCR Alliance wouldn't be availible until June/July, if ever. It didn't sound promising.

Yeah Mitch is right, I honestly don't recall the 2010 Alliance ever being available. Maybe one of the super dealers may have gotten one but an alliance TCR was probably last seen as a 2009 model.
I'm still waiting on my Anthem X Advanced, but it seems as they have disappeared and will reemerge as a 2011 model

I don't see the point in mixing materials. It just makes the frame weaker and I can't imagine it adds a whole lot to ride quality. Maybe I'm wrong though.

On that note, I have ridden one. I don't own it but when working in a Giant dealer I had the opportunity. It rides quite similar to a full carbon bike, but it has the kind of snappier feel of aluminum. Very stiff. It's a good idea, you can't tell where it's stuck together as it is a completely flush transition.

Hi
I went from an 08 Alliance to a 10 Advanced (Defy not the TCR in both cases). I could hardly pick up any difference in ride quality. The Advanced was a little lighter (maybe 1 kg). The Alliance is very very good.
