Any You Guys Use Rice Vinegar?

I used to eat alot of salads when trying to drop some weight. One day some dude siad I ought to try rice vinegar. I had never heard of it, it's in the oriental section at the markets. Could be that I'm not much of an Oriental eater.

So I picked it up and it's pretty darn good. Taste much like balsamic salad dressing, maybe a little sharper. I use it on sliced up cucumbers with red chili powder. OR a salad with some grated cheese to help smooth it out a bit. I have to say that when I eat it with cucumbers, I love to sip the last of what's left on the plate. It's like biting into a lemon.

Either way, I use it on salads to avoid the fat in regular dressings when I'm trying to cut back. Try it, you might like it!

A bottle at the market might be about $3. Maybe 3 different flavors (gralic & herb). A big bottle at Smart & Final is aobut 10 bucks. I stock up on it there an refill my little bottle when it empties. Only flavor at S&M is the regular but for that price, heck, I add garlic salt.

So if for anyone else like me who can't stand the taste of lowfat dressings, this works fer me.

For salads I'm partial a bit of high quality olive oil and a squeeze of lemon juice. I may have to try the rice vinegar, sounds yummy. Malt vinegar is tasty on French fries

Oh man... I have a feeling I'd be visiting Mr. Tums not long thereafter! ...more due to the cucumbers than chili powder. Although I do have a propensity for eating (and enjoying!) things that come back to haunt me during the wee hours.

I guess I didn't think of that. Maybe the videgar kills the cucumber, but I never have a problem with this combo. I do with cucs in a salad though.

There is a lot of sodium in the SEASONED rice vinegars. I use NAKANO NATURAL which has no sodium and no calories. Our local A&P has had it on sale lately - 3 bottles for 5 bucks. I like it because it's a bit milder than regular vinegar. I use it as a seasoning and condiment on a lot of foods. Great way to cut calories. Enjoy.

I think you add the coconut vinegar to olive oil, to thin the olive oil so it penetrates the chain links.

...I really do avoid oils though. Gina's always saying to use olive oil cause it's good for you. I've used it to cook but I swear I feel a bag of oil sitting in my stomach when I do.

I've experimented with lots of stuff for salad dressings. You should try balsamic, wine/sherry, apple cider, and other vinegars as well. Lots of flavors out there.

You can also make really tasty low calorie dressings by adding things like dijon/brown mustard (also adding splenda and water makes a tasty honey-mustard taste-alinke), fat-free mayonaise or yogurt, etc.

Just add things together with the spices of your choice to the consistency that you like. There are a bunch of fast, easy, and decent recipes out there too.
