As long as it points to https://www.usacycling.org, I would hope so.

There are Bad Things hackers could do to make the above statement false, but as long as it's not some fake URL or a bit.ly link then yeah.

Few careers have that nice left brain/right brain mix.

we had an open house at work on monday, during which I provided live entertainment by playing with my tenorman friend, who used to work at the company. Some coworkers inside doing demos said that when people asked about things within my expertise and learned that I was the guy outside on the keyboard, they invariably said: "you mean he actually works here?"...

...which when when relayed to me I responded: "you mean he's not a professional pianist???"

Congratulations. My kid's program there is equally selective, 65/3500. It's funny. He's looking at transferring just to get closer to a major city, but he's learning very quickly that the comparable programs aren't really comparable. Syracuse is a really good school. I know this is going to be a difficult decision for your son. Good luck.

This hotel is not joking when it refers to itself as a budget inn. Damn...this is perhaps the worst motel I've ever stayed in, and it's $60/night!

The landlady has decided to sell the house I have lived in for 15 years which she inherited from her brother a few years ago. I can't afford it and I don't know where to move.frak.
Yesterday Mrs. John informed me she is probably getting let go from her job of 16 years. frak.
Monday I am getting a new manager at work, he will be #11 since I've been there. He is part of a group coming from another dealer that includes a service writer who started this past week. This writer is the most gung-ho ripoff thieving bastard I've ever met. That part makes me sick. frak.

Wow big john, that's a lot of tough news all at once.

It also sounds like a situation that could be turned around onto an opportunity to re-evaluate. Do you love where you live? Is there any where you always wanted to live or a career move your wife is interested in? Possibilities are very open right now, you could move, retrain, take a sabbatical (put your stuff in storage and ride your bike around the world)... Obviously if you have kids or parents to support or other obligations you can't walk away from them, but don't be trapped by having to have some life path that other people define.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Had a nice 5 hour ride yesterday, so that felt good. Mrs John is in a pretty deep funk right now but there is a slight possibility she could keep her job.
What I wanted to do was collect Social Security and go part-time at work. My boss said he was ok with it if we could find someone to take my place. Now he's not going to be my boss and if that place is turning into the kind of ripoff shop you always hear about then I don't want to be part of it.
Real estate is going crazy again here in SoCal and my best option might be to move someplace cheaper. This next week will provide some more info as I meet the new boss, talk to the landlady, and Mrs. John has her meeting at work.
I'd like to be able to stay here and work less and ride more with all my retired friends.

valygrl, parents are long gone and I never had any kids. The only obligation I have is to Mrs. John and that might be negotiable.

Anyone here in the philly area? My younger sister's an undergrad there and looking for used bikes. She's getting hilarious prices on stuff. If anyone has something or knows someone selling a city bike, let me know and I can pass the info on to her!

NVM: She bought something crazily expensive down there. Oh kids.

Heh. One of my brother's bands made the Awkward Metal Band photo thing for the second time. I used songs from that band only twice as it's not really appropriate stuff for my clips. My brother plays drums. Singer is actually a graphic artist, he did a lot of (all of?) the work for some aspect of one of the Grand Theft Autos, I think the game covers or posters or something for the San Andreas one. Boston based band but with every scattered to the winds they don't get together much. Anyway, this is them to the right (Tunnel of Love):

What's a bit wacky is that they got paid to fly to Europe to play gigs, multiple times, different countries even. They also got paid to fly around the US and Canada to play. I think it's at the "pro continental" level, but still, airfare and housing covered. Clip from Sweden, my brother is on drums (no swears but it's not really appropriate for work, turn volume down):
